As a Mergers & Acquisitions (“M&A”) Analyst, you’ll help make that happen. You will be an important part of our talented and highly experienced team and work at the forefront of high-profile transactions.
Your key responsibilities
As an Analyst, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the execution of the M&A process, from deal sourcing to closure. The role of an Analyst within EY’s M&A group is challenging and fast paced, that requires dedication and a strong work ethic. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Perform market research and analysis, including analysis of key business drivers and market, competition and industry risk and opportunity analysis
- Synthesize research to be used in modeling, competitive analysis, industry analysis, negotiation support and various other applications
- Prepare detailed financial models, including scenario analysis
- Prepare valuation analysis using a range of valuation techniques, including discounted cash flow analysis, comparable market multiples and precedent transaction analysis
- Assist in the due diligence process
- Prepare marketing materials and investment memos
- Provide strategic advice to clients across a range of industries and transactions
Skills and attributes for success
We are looking for candidates who are highly motivated, have a very strong attention to detail and are analytical and logical thinkers with a passion for corporate finance. Being a strong team player, with the ability to adapt to changing requirements or deadlines in support of our client’s goals is also important.
To be successful in this role, you should have the following attributes:

- An ability to work well under pressure with multiple competing deadlines, while maintaining attention to detail
- Results oriented and energetic self-starter
- Strong computer (specifically Excel and PowerPoint) and financial modeling skills
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- An ability to assist in all phases of M&A transactions, including valuation, negotiations, due diligence, closing
- An ability to create and present detailed financial reports, pitch decks (“CIM”) and transaction documentation
- Working knowledge of the Canadian GAAP and International Finance and Accounting concepts and principles as it relates to M&A transactions
- Strong written and verbal communication/presentation skills
- Ability to develop relationships and liaise with EY colleagues and team members to achieve premium outcomes for our clients
- This role involves interaction with clients operating nationally and globally. Bilingualism in both French and English is therefore a requirement of this role.
To qualify for the role, you must have
- Undergraduate degree
- 2 - 4 years of work experience in a related field
Ideally, you’ll also have
A professional designation, such as the:
- CPA designation;
- CBV designation or progress towards the completion of the CBV program of studies; or
- CFA designation or progress towards the completion of the CFA program of studies
