As a Private Bank Mortgage Underwriting Analyst, you will play a crucial role in supporting the mortgage origination business by performing underwriting analysis to determine credit risk on mortgage applications. Your work will ensure that all loan decisions conform to internal credit policies, protecting the bank from financial, reputational, and regulatory risks. You will collaborate with global stakeholders and various internal teams to drive the mortgage origination process from start to finish. This role requires exceptional analytical, written & verbal communication skills and flexibility, especially in working North American hours.
Job Responsibilities:
- Review and enter loan information as per current underwriting guidelines into the loan system.
- Analyze income by reviewing and validating US financial documents such as Paystubs, W2s, Tax Returns, and K-1s.
- Conduct credit analysis by reviewing consumer credit reports, assessing credit scores, delinquencies, and public records.
- Perform balance sheet and financial analysis, determining liquid and non-liquid assets and liabilities.
- Coordinate with the Loan Advisory/ Mortgage Solutions Team to develop necessary credit information.
- Add relevant underwriting conditions based on the loan application and ensure timely clearance.
- Identify credit risks, collateral variances, and deviations from standard underwriting guidelines. Adhere to the 30-day timeline for all credit decisions from a Regulation B (ECOA) standpoint.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- 3 years of Live Mortgage Underwriting experience in US mortgage loan originations.
- Strong knowledge of the concepts of Accounting, Banking & Finance, Mathematics, and tools like MS Excel for calculations, Zoom, MS Teams and etc.
- Experience in reviewing and analyzing US financial documents such as Bank/ Asset statements, Balance Sheet/ Personal Financial statements, Profit & Loss statements, Personal Tax Returns, and Credit reports.
- Thorough understanding of all stages of the mortgage origination life cycle.
- Very strong written and verbal communication skills with an excellent command over English.
- Flexibility to work in North American hours.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Exposure to Production management, work allocation, prioritization, exception handling, and Process documentation.
- Working knowledge of major US mortgage regulations.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in US, ASIA, and EMEA shifts.
All successful applicants will undergo underwriting training and must pass a two-stage assessment. Failure to pass these assessments will result in non-regularization for external applicants. Internal applicants, on the other hand, will not be endorsed to production and will have to apply and move to a new role immediately.
