About the Role
You will be responsible for ensuring that * Uber partners’ * vehicle fleets in multiple locations scale out, and run efficiently. You will operate as the on-site lead when traveling, troubleshooting vehicle systems, bootstrapping new sites, applying standards, fixing process and engineering issues, and working across teams to improve operations. What You Will Do
- Serve as the on-site technical lead, diagnosing and resolving software, hardware, and system issues while managing fleet deployment.
- Develop scalable infrastructure solutions that support efficient processing, storage, and transmission of vehicle data from distributed locations.
- Collaborate with software, hardware, and logistics teams to standardize and drive improvements in processes used for managing fleet deployment.
- Support hardware qualification by running benchmarks, analyzing performance, contributing to design improvements
- Support logistics and inventory management, ensuring necessary equipment is available and properly configured.
- Provide updates daily to stakeholder teams and leadership on key technical issues and information
Basic Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in an engineering role with exposure to both software and hardware.
- Strong problem-solving ability with demonstrated capability to figure things out in ambiguous, fast-changing environments.
- Proficiency in Linux troubleshooting and scripting (Python preferred) to support fleet operations.
- Strong communication skills, capable of collaborating across technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to manage logistics, vehicle diagnostics, and operational planning in a fast-moving environment.
- A bias for action—you’re not afraid to step outside traditional role boundaries to get things done.
- Comfortable working in the field. Willingness to work in varied environments, including outdoor operations, garages
- Ability to document issues, workflows, and processes clearly and concisely to support cross-team collaboration and scalability
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in fleet operations, vehicle systems, embedded technologies, server hardware/builds
- Hands on experience with hardware troubleshooting: the ability to diagnose and resolve server, software, sensor or connectivity issues in a fleet environment
- Experience deploying and maintaining standardized operational process across multiple locations
- Familiarity with networking concepts and debugging techniques (LTE, Wi-Fi)
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and distributed systems, with a willingness to grow into cloud engineering responsibilities over time.
- Proven track record of influencing cross-functional teams to drive improvements in engineering and operational workflows
For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$153,000 per year - USD$170,000 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$153,000 per year - USD$170,000 per year.
