Your impact

As an Associate Environmental Scientist in the Contaminated Land Assessment and Remediation Section, you will take an active role in leading the delivery of projects. This will include technical guidance for more junior staff in supporting the successful execution of field sampling programs and contamination assessment report writing. You will seek to provide mentoring to more junior staff in relation to the broad skills required of a consultant, both technical and softer skills. You will take an active role in business development, responsible for building client relationships that secure repeat work and new work that supports your own personal pipeline as well as that of others in the team. More specifically, this role will include the following tasks that will be performed with support from other members of the team as appropriate:

  • Planning and execution of moderate to complex projects. You will provide technical guidance to support others on such projects as well as perform project management and client facing roles where appropriate. You will be supported by senior technical and project delivery leaders and you will support more junior members of the team.
  • You will have an in-depth knowledge of the regulatory framework and technical elements of the contaminated land sector within your State or Territory, and a familiarity with the corresponding elements in other regions.
  • You will lead simple and moderately complex pursuits as appropriate and provide support as a bid team member for the pursuit of more complex opportunities.
  • You will collaborate with other Sections to help deliver successful project outcomes for our clients and you will support the broader section by providing informal leadership.
Here's what you'll need

You'll need a tertiary qualification in either Environmental Science/Engineering, Geology or Hydrogeology but just as important will be your personal attributes. You'll be as committed as we are to improving the world we live in, seizing the environmental challenges that we all face and coming up with solutions that will benefit generations to come.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Geology, Earth Sciences and professional or consultancy experience.
  • Extensive work experience in consulting is advantageous, particularly within the field of contaminated land assessment, or having had any prior involvement in preparing technical reports.
  • An appreciation of other environmental consultancy disciplines e.g., ecology, hydrogeology, hydrology, soil science, and cultural heritage would be advantageous.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex projects on time and within budget, while leading and motivating teams to exceed client expectations.
  • Provided training and mentorship to junior staff while offering substantial project management support to the team.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and familiarity with videoconferencing practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and an appetite to learn and develop technical skills relevant to contaminated land assessment
