13.08.2024
What to Expect
The Dimensional Engineering Technician at Gigafactory Texas will work as a member in the Model Y BIW Dimensional Engineering organization. This role will focus heavily on Body Shop tooling accuracy, product form, and product dimensional quality. Work will be comprised of working alongside engineering teams to better understand ways to improve/validate product dimensional performance. The first fold will be to deploying problem-solving skillsets to critically analyze complex dimensional problems through understanding dimensional variation analysis. Second, utilize metrology equipment (Leica Laser Tracker / Absolute Arm / Laser Gages / Calipers / etc.) on regular basis to help collect CMM data of tooling, parts, trials, etc. to support studies. Third, support maintaining and improving Body Shop tooling accuracy by leveraging activities from above. There may be times where data collection is required daily. The end goal of these efforts will lead to identifying opportunities in process, design, supplier, or tooling that will improve overall form and dimensional performance of the product
What You’ll Do
  • Work with various engineering teams on either validation, continuous improvement activities, and general complex problem-solving to improve overall product quality - may include various physical tasks, i.e., moving parts and equipment
  • Support engineers in conducting failure analysis (FA) through hands-on DOE trials to better understand problems, i.e., trials on CUBE (ABA swap), dimensional waterfall trials, etc.
  • Support engineers in maintaining and adjusting BIW tooling to maintain or improve dimensional performance (PIST)
  • Support in collecting and analyzing dimensional data using CMM and other data collection devices + Polyworks as required
  • Perform preventative maintenance tooling checks to ensure successful production runs
  • Help provide basic level of analysis of data collection through meaningful statistical visualization that help characterize next steps
  • Apply GD&T best practices for tooling and product
What You’ll Bring
  • Associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to have flexible hours when there is a business need
  • 2 or more years’ experience in hands-on technical role dealing with problem-solving to improve product quality, experience in running DOE studies, dimensional analysis is highly preferred
  • 2 or more years’ experience in a metrology or technical role operating and programming CMM or Portable CMM, preferred
  • Previous background with the ability to use basic hand measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, thread gauges etc.) preferred
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings (including GD&T), preferred
