This role is for a motivated
Principal Software Engineerwith a background in Firmware development for embedded systems and experience in data acquisition to join the Microsoft Mixed Reality Design Verification Engineering (DVE) team, located in the Silicon Valley Campus (SVC) offices in Mountain View, CA. You will create the firmware architecture for key systems in validation and manufacturing and work closely with hardware teams to ensure our product meets its functional and performance goals. You will contribute to the design of various firmware components of our products, including feature development for low-level hardware. Your code will touch every device in Mixed Reality.
This is expected to be a hands-on role, where you will have the opportunity to work with a cross functional team of extremely talented engineers to deliver innovation at scale and own delivery of product across Mixed Reality Hardware.
You have proficient C programing skills, experience with embedded Linux, UEFI environments, scripting languages and model design frameworks, and utilizing AI assistance to develop reusable, well documented code. You will be root causing issues at the intersection of multiple subsystems across firmware and hardware.

Required Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 6+ Years of experience in firmware development for embedded systems.

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
    • OR related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • Experience in Data Acquistion, Real Time Operating System and Driver Developement
  • Experience in Emebedded software architecture is a plus
  • Experience in mentoring and guiding early in career engineers

Responsibilities
  • Partners with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of scenarios.
  • Leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
  • Leads by example and mentors others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products.
  • Leverages subject-matter expertise of cross-product features with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items.
  • Holds accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.
