The Difference You Will Make:

As a Staff Analytics Engineer, you will be a key contributor to building foundational datasets that provide insights for the company and our Guest & Host community. This role requires a high degree of autonomy, as you will directly collaborate with Product, Analytics, Data Scientists, and peer engineering teams to define requirements and execute effectively.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying gaps and opportunities with stakeholders and understanding their needs.
  • Setting the team's roadmap.
  • Driving alignment on improving and adopting data quality within the Users domain.
  • Mentoring and reviewing designs and work of engineers on the team, while setting a high bar for quality.
A Typical Day:
  • Design and develop high-quality data assets for internal product and analytics use cases, as well as for external partners.
  • Foster strong collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams including backend/client, data science, analytics, and machine learning.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to enhance product usage measurement through improved logging practices.
  • Create robust pipelines, frameworks, tools, and dashboards to efficiently generate insights that meet critical business, product, and regulatory requirements.
  • Translate ambiguous data requirements into clear, efficient, scalable, and impactful deliverables.
  • Present in-depth product and technical analyses to key stakeholders.
  • Influence the strategic direction of data-driven decision-making within the organization.
  • Develop user data entities at Airbnb to deepen understanding of Guest & Host behavior and improve platform personalization.

Your Expertise:

  • 9+ years of experience experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Science, Data Engineering, or similar field
  • Expertise in SQL and proficiency in at least one data engineering language, such as Python or Scala
  • Expertise creating metrics, evaluating effectiveness of defenses - ex: rules and ML models utilizing evaluation and experiment data.
  • Experience with Tableau and data visualization tools generally
  • Experience with an ETL framework like Airflow
  • Excellent communication skills with a history of strong collaborations with technical and non-technical partners
  • Expertise with data warehousing and modeling. Hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and columnar databases (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery, HBase, ClickHouse)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex data issues
