Job summary:

As a Control Manager - Alternative Investments within the Asset Management Global Alternatives platform, you will lead a global team of Control Managers in support of specific Alternative desks/business lines. You will manage control-related activities, foster a proactive risk and control culture, and partner effectively with colleagues across the firm to promote consistent and rigorous operational risk practices. This role offers the opportunity to influence a strong culture of risk management and to contribute to the growth of our rapidly expanding Alternatives Investments market.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead a Global team of Control Managers in the support of a specific set of Alternative desks/business lines
  • Manage control-related activities, including risk event occurrences, and new business initiatives and provide control related due diligence to business units to foster a proactive risk and control culture that leverages proven evaluation strategies and sound change management protocols
  • Partner effectively with colleagues across the firm, business, operations management, legal, compliance, risk, audit, regulators and technology control functions to drive consistent and rigorous operational risk practices and Control programs including: control committees, risk mitigation, key risk indicators, control design and performance evaluation
  • Help establish control governance and reporting to identify meaningful metrics to monitor operational risk and control environment; escalate control deficiencies based on key reporting indicators; and manage control committees and forums.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels
  • Lead and partner with the business, legal, risk, compliance and other control partners on various issues ranging from self-identified issues to global regulatory enforcement actions, support discussions with regulators, audit teams, compliance and risk ranging from one-off meetings to more formal presentations in Business Control Committees
  • Lead in the root cause analysis of client-impacting errors and aid both the correction and improvement of the control environment
  • Partner with the business and other control partners across multiple time zones to create consistency in the control environment and underlying processes globally
  • Aid in the utilization of the technology budget and inform key decisions on technology infrastructure
  • Provide ongoing feedback and training to develop employees on risk concepts and the application to risk and control evaluation
  • Lead by example, with exemplary personal and professional attributes. Inspire confidence in all levels of staff as well as key partners from other functional areas and across Lines of Business

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting or related field
  • Extensive financial services experience in controls, audit, quality assurance, risk management, operations or compliance
  • Knowledge of Alternatives / Real Assets businesses (Real Estate, Infrastructure, Transport) a strong advantage
  • Demonstrate confident leadership and sound judgment to influence a strong culture and risk management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) with the ability to develop compelling and meaningful executive presentations that will drive opportunities / recommendation for improvement

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience in leading and developing teams, especially distributed teams, strongly preferred
  • Knowledge / experience with private and public funds (e.g., 3(c)(7), Cayman, Mutual, SICAV, UCITS) preferred.
  • Knowledge of banking processes, regulations and associated risks a plus
  • Experience with regulators (OCC, SEC, CFTC, LUX) a plus
  • Exposure to various asset classes / instrument types (Equities, Fixed Income, OTC, Exchange Traded Derivatives, Real Estate, Private Equity, etc.) a plus.
  • Knowledge of the “Trade Life Cycle” (execution, capture, affirmation, settlement, servicing, reporting) a plus.
