As a Software Development Manager in the Builder Tools team, you will own the development of advanced observability and performance optimization tools. These include custom profilers, experimentation platforms, benchmarking systems, and testing frameworks that help engineers across Amazon build more efficient and reliable services. You will work closely with senior engineers, technical leaders, and partner teams to shape the technical strategy, drive high-impact projects, and raise the engineering bar.Key job responsibilities
You will manage project delivery, guide technical direction, and grow a high-performing team. You’ll work closely with partner teams to ensure our tools address the most impactful performance challenges across Amazon.Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, clear communication, and the ability to mentor engineers working in Java-based systems. Familiarity with profiling tools such as JFR, JStack, or JMeter and experience with observability and distributed systems is a plus.At DataNexus Builder Tools, you will lead efforts to improve system efficiency at scale. - 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 4+ years of engineering team management experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
