About the role:

As the Patient Benefits Specialist your responsibilities include providing patients with benefit and cost estimation of services as ordered by their provider. This position requires both Insurance Research and Patient Customer Service that will provide patients with accurate information regarding their insurance benefits, financial assistance availability and estimation of patient cost while providing excellent customer service and positive patient experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for identification of copay and deductibles, communicating patient financial responsibility to patient prior to date of service, and collection of such patient responsibility prior to service.
  • Obtains insurance verification and benefits using an automated verification tool, insurance carrier websites, or by phone.
  • Prepares an estimate for scheduled service and notifies the patient/guarantor of any applicable out of pocket and requests payment if applicable.
  • Accurately documents all information in the appropriate fields and or/account notes.
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and reviews daily work activity to ensure completion of assigned workload.
  • Courteously answers telephone and/or emails and answers all questions in a timely manner.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with patients/guarantors, insurance companies, clinical personnel, co-workers, and management to promote teamwork and cooperation.
  • Outbound/Inbound phone calls with patients to verify shipping address.
  • Release orders for shipment once all prerequisites are met.
  • Add all special request notes to patient orders.
  • Send study cancellation notifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Outstanding Phone communication skills.
  • Participates in educational activities and attends regular staff and department meetings.
  • Consistently work in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow team members and management.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to perform duties wherever volume deems it necessary.
  • Document activities appropriately in process notes.
  • Possess a strong work ethic and a commitment to improving patients’ lives.
  • Complies with all company and department policies and procedures.
  • Enjoys problem-solving in a dynamic, fast paced, team based and rapidly changing environment.

Required qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience in providing healthcare insurance verification and quoting.
  • Knowledge of insurance principles and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software programs.
