The Senior Legal Counsel - Regulatory Strategy (Fintech) is responsible for identifying and assessing regulatory and other legal implications – working independently and with the other team members – to chart Booking.com path in the growing Fintech area, being able to translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable implementation strategies for the business.
Key Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Ensuring compliance by facilitating the implementation of Fintech regulatory requirements, while optimising for commercial outcomes (including by building on or modifying existing solutions)
Providing strategic legal guidance on a full range of legal issues, coordinating support and managing risks across different legal areas (including Competition, Consumer, Privacy and other tech regulations)
Procuring and interpreting legal advice to the Fintech business including on payment regulatory strategy, from external counsel and internal subject matter experts
Autonomously working with the business, responding to business stakeholders and efficiently collecting and analysing input from business teams
Presenting to senior management on relevant matters, providing creative and risk-based recommendations on complex matters
Actively maintaining legal budget for owned matters, ensuring external counsel are effectively managed
Qualifications & Skills:
Knowledge of and experience with relevant regulations, including competition law, consumer protection laws, online platform regulations, Digital Markets Act (DMA), Digital Services Act (DSA) and privacy laws, and/or Payments Regulations such as Payment Services Directive, Interchange Fee Regulation, or other related/transferable industry equivalent.
Previous experience in law firms, regulators and/or multinational companies working on complex regulatory matters across jurisdictions
Project management experience and commercial awareness
Strategic thinking and ability to be proactive and determine a long term vision
With limited supervision, ability to drive decision making and understand risk trade-offs
Ability to combine high quality legal work and organizational requirements (including budget setting)
Ability to translate legal requirements and risks across different functions, teams and roles
Familiarity with financial service products and the Fintech space is desirable, but not necessary
