About the role:
Reporting to the Vice President Head of Global Litigation, the Counsel – Litigation will be responsible for providing strategic guidance and legal counsel on a variety of product liability, employment, and commercial matters. Your main responsibilities will include managing a portfolio of product liability, employment, and commercial claims and cases throughout the world, with a particular emphasis on product liability and employment. You will evaluate and advise the company regarding strategies for defending and, occasionally, prosecuting claims, and you will direct outside counsel’s preparation of legal documents and handling of litigation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Partnering with the Litigation team of lawyers and paralegals to set strategy and deliver results
- Driving and delivering case strategies and litigation results
- Actively engaging in all aspects of the litigation process, including assessing risk, developing strategy, partnering with outside counsel, reviewing pleadings, preparing company witnesses for depositions, managing written discovery processes, attending hearings and trials, and preparing/executing trial strategy
- Efficiently managing outside legal counsel budget, work, and costs in a resource-constrained context
- Collaborating with litigation and business unit colleagues on dispute-resolution and litigation-avoidance matters
- Proactively leading dispute risk mitigation projects that help advance BSC’s strategy and protect the company
- Supporting day-to-day direction, strategy and legal advice to business stakeholders on dispute resolution issues impacting BSC
- Working collaboratively and effectively with in-house counsel, business partners and Litigation Supporting team members (paralegal and e-Discovery) to ensure goal alignment on major projects, legal and business strategies, resources and communications
- Communicating with business attorneys and internal clients on updates, strategy, and alignment
- Communicating with opposing counsel and/or parties on dispute resolution without the assistance of outside counsel
- Partnering with internal finance and accounting teams on cost management and trends
Required Qualifications
- J.D. admitted to the bar in good standing
- 7-10+ years of experience, preferably a portion of which took place at a major law firm
- Experience working within medical device, pharma or healthcare industry
- Experience counseling and advising medical device, healthcare providers and/or pharmaceutical company clients on issues related to employment, product liability, and commercial litigation

- Self-reliant with willingness to “own” issues and creatively identify and implement solutions
