As a Executive Director – Athlete Center of Excellence on the Wealth Planning & Advice Team, you will have a thorough knowledge of planning for individuals, including trusts & estates and individual tax rules (primarily transfer tax, although income tax knowledge is a plus). Familiarity with the taxation of entities and of estates and trusts is also useful. Experience with financial planning concepts and execution is important; including the use of financial planning software.
You will partner with J.P. Morgan Wealth Management and field leaders to solidify regional or segment strategies and subsequently advise the field on how to execute on the strategies. You will demonstrate a natural curiosity for people as well as planning and for the wealth management industry overall, must demonstrate independent initiative and must be responsive and be passionate about educating athletes and helping them to achieve their goals of long-term financial independence and will also partner with our Behavioral Science team to help guide athletes and their families. You will engage with our Athlete Council to identify opportunities for client acquisition and service, whether with existing products and services or by suggesting new areas for J.P. Morgan to engage and will be the primary owner of executing on those opportunities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Partner with WP&A leadership and the Athlete Council to develop written and other content (such as video or podcast) specifically geared to athletes
- Serves as a resource to the JPMWM field in the areas of simple and sophisticated planning for athletes
- Partner with field leadership and Practice Management to integrate planning concepts for athletes into our standard goals-based advice
- Provide unbiased comprehensive and customized wealth planning advice to clients and prospective clients
- Travel to branches and client meetings
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of both federal and state tax laws relating to our areas of focus and to the rules governing NIL and professional athletes
- Promote J.P. Morgan’s knowledge and sophistication to outside centers of influence, primarily business managers, agents, accountants and attorneys
- Work with Advisors to develop business opportunities with prospective and existing clients
- Be comfortable working with individuals across the entire wealth spectrum and have experience with athletes, with tax and wealth transfer strategies; and with financial planning; experience with investments, banking and lending for athletes is a plus
- Actively participant in team discussions to proactively propose planning ideas and industry trends that can be shared with the field
- Mentor junior team members
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
- 4-year college degree and either a J.D., LL.B., CPA, or CFP or equivalent
- Experience as a professional athlete and 5+ years of experience as a practitioner (planner, lawyer, business manager, accountant, etc.) working with professional athletes, or 10+ years as a practitioner working with professional or college athletes
- Self-starter with natural curiosity for individual planning and people
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are critical as the ACOE will be the primary voice of J.P. Morgan to the public as we promote our value proposition for athletes and will be the primary author of educational material that the ACOE will help to create for use by athletes and their teams of advisors as well as by the J.P. Morgan field.

- Senior level individual that is a strong self-motivator who can work closely with Advisors and high-profile clients and prospective clients without daily contact with a direct manager
- Strong presentation skills in one on one and group meetings
- Experience and ability in understanding clients’ financial situations and personal circumstances
- Must be able to coach colleagues, Financial Advisors and clients (very strong partnership skills)
- Series 7 & 66 securities licenses (may be fulfilled within 6 months of assuming role)
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills.
- Insurance licensing is a plus but is not required
- Individual with high ethical standards who never sacrifices integrity and works in the clients’ best interest
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
- Experience with NIL is a plus, as is experience working with college and minor-league players.
