This team within Nokia Standards focuses on the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects of emerging communication technologies. They work on:

  • Standardization: Contributing to international standards for ESG aspects of communication technologies.
  • Research: Conducting internal and external research projects on sustainability in telecommunications.
  • Specific Areas:
    • Environmental Assessment: Developing methodologies for assessing the environmental impact of communication technologies.
    • Climate Change, Biodiversity, and LCA: Researching the environmental impact of technologies, including life cycle analysis.
    • Circularity: Exploring circular economy principles in telecommunications.
    • Handprint/ICT Enabling Effect: Assessing the positive impact of ICT on sustainability.
  • Sustainability Technology Research:
    • Sustainable Internet: Addressing challenges in developing and operating a sustainable internet.
    • 6G Sustainability by Design: Integrating sustainability principles into 6G technology development.
    • Value-Oriented Design: Designing telecommunications systems with sustainability in mind.
    • Sustainability Frameworks: Linking sustainability requirements to technology enablers.

As part of the team, you will:

  • Participate in internal and external research projects related to technical specialization areas that are relevant for targeted standards and emerging technology domains, with a view to creating assessment methodologies for standards, differentiating technology solutions, robust intellectual property assets and relevant publications. Potentially participating in external standardization meetings as a Nokia standardization delegate.
  • Support internal customer, marketing, corporate functions as well as government relations teams on the specialization areas as necessary
  • Scout for new and emerging research and standardization topics that will grow the standardization landscape you are active in.
  • Collaborate with social, economic, environmental and systems science, policy and regulation experts to develop holistic research perspectives on sustainability impacts of our technology in these domains.
KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Passion for Sustainability: Demonstrated interest and experience in sustainable technology development and operations.
  • Education: MSc (PhD preferred) in relevant fields like environmental engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, computer science, or mathematics.
  • Telecommunications Expertise: Strong understanding of telecommunication network architectures and design, ideally with end-to-end knowledge of mobile networks and internet infrastructure/protocols.
  • Standardization Experience: General understanding of standardization and industry associations, preferably with experience in 3GPP or IETF.
  • Analytical & Innovative Mindset: Ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Communication Skills: Fluent English (written and spoken), additional fluency in German (Germany) or French (France) is required for standardization delegate roles.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration: Ability to work independently and effectively within international virtual teams.
  • Communication & Writing: Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, and technical writing skills.
  • Bonus: Previous publications and innovations in relevant areas are a plus.
