What to Expect

A Process Engineer will implement, develop, and optimize production methodologies in the Energy Cell manufacturingoperations of Tesla. This engineer will be responsible for optimizing productflow through process optimization that may include tool /fixture selection, line layouts, ergonomic study, material presentation, 5s, Kaizen, Gemba, Sixsigma and other relevant factors. They will interface with design, test, andquality engineering to solve problems, improve manufacturability, and implementcontinual improvement. They will sustain products with cost reduction and yieldimprovements. In addition, the process engineer will work with quality tocompile and evaluate data to determine appropriate limits and variables forprocess or material specifications.

What You’ll Do
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams in thedevelopment of Process Flows, Control Plan, GR&R, Work Instructions, Processcapability, Rework Procedures, Calibration and Qualification of tools, QualityValidation, Risk Assessments (PFMEA) & New product introduction
  • Collaborate with Original Equipment Manufacturers inthe commissioning and start of production of new automated manufacturingequipment. Collaborate with EHS in the identification, prevention, andmitigation of safety hazards, proposing and implementing engineering solutions
  • Develop expertise in manufacturingprocesses. Understand process capabilities through critical data analysisand in depth understanding of the product. Develop and modify linelayouts, including material flow, waste reduction, and ergonomics, utilizingLean Manufacturing best practices
  • Analyze and optimize productionprocesses to ensure safety while maximizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness(OEE) in cost effective means while driving to achieve world-class qualitylevels. Champion continuous improvement projects (CIP) to maximizeyield, capacity, and capability
  • Responsible for diagnosing issuesfound during the part manufacturing process and drive corrective action back tosource, resulting in root cause identification andelimination. Utilize structured problem-solving techniques such asDMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) and Eight Disciplines (8D)
  • Develop robust and clear datacollection, visualization, and analysis tools. Enable data drivenoperational and financial decisions through predictive insights into tool andprocess performance, including integration of factory data systems and use ofsoftware such as MySQL, Python, R, JMP, Minitab, Tableau and Ignition
  • Monitor and reduce process variationusing techniques such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and MeasurementSystems Analysis (MSA). Monitor and audit manufacturing processes toensure product specifications and standards are achieved. Participatein the development and maintenance of FMEAs and ControlPlans. Analyze, develop, process, and implement Engineering ChangeOrders
  • Create and maintain ManufacturingInstructions, routings, and associated processes. Manage activities forprocess sustaining technicians to support day to day coverage of productionline, including developing and documenting appropriate rework procedures
  • Integrate and sustain MES (ManufacturingExecution Systems) for area of ownership to enhance traceability andmanufacturing performance
  • Support 24 by 7 production operations
