Director, Technical Program Management - Finance Technology

As a Director of TPM, you will collaborate closely with engineering, product management, and stakeholders across multiple lines of business. You’ll manage risks, dependencies, and execution timelines while leading technical implementations that align with long-term architectural strategies. Additionally, you will play a key role in designing and implementing critical custom-built and third-party applications to meet business goals.

Beyond delivering technical programs, you will also help shape and elevate the Technical Program Management discipline within the Finance Technology organization. Your industry expertise will be instrumental in setting a high bar for what TPMs can achieve.

Our TPM Directors have:

  • A strong technical background with hands-on experience building highly scalable platforms, products, or services with the ability to proactively identify and mitigate technical risks across the delivery lifecycle.

  • Exceptional stakeholder communication and collaboration skills to engage with multiple LOB partners, navigate ambiguous and evolving requirements, and facilitate clear, actionable communication to drive alignment and understanding.

  • Deep expertise in solving problems through quantitative analysis and systems thinking.

  • Proven ability to simplify complex technical concepts and facilitate well-informed decision-making among engineering, product, design, and data teams.

  • Focus on execution, accountability, and results, with a track record of delivering impactful programs.

  • Exceptional cross-team collaboration and the ability to work across functions, organizations, and reporting structures to achieve goals.

  • Emotional intelligence, active listening, and empathy to foster strong relationships with teams and partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to establish and execute technical implementation plans.

  • Manage risks, dependencies, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure successful delivery of large-scale programs.

  • Drive architectural decisions and contribute to the implementation of critical systems, balancing custom-built and third-party solutions.

  • Lead technology-focused discussions with senior leadership to guide software architecture and strategy.

  • Promote and advocate for Technical Program Management best practices within the Finance Technology organization.

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of experience managing technical programs

  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience designing and building data-intensive solutions using distributed computing.

  • 5+ years of experience in building distributed systems & highly available services using cloud computing services and architecture (AWS)

  • 5+ years experience building highly scalable mobile products & platforms

  • 5+ years of experience with Agile delivery methodologies

  • 5+ years years experience delivering large and complex programs - where you own the business or technical vision, collaborate with large cross-functional teams, secure commitments on deliverables and unblock teams to land business impact

  • Experience building systems and solutions within a highly regulated environment

  • Bachelor’s degree or MBA or Master’s Degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering)

McLean, VA: $226,000 - $257,900 for Director, Technical Program Management Richmond, VA: $205,400 - $234,400 for Director, Technical Program ManagementThis role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
