Your Responsibilities Include:
- Supporting Divisional IP Counsel and R&D teams to ensure that invention disclosure forms are completed and managing the invention disclosure process with inventors.
- Facilitating Patent Review Boards meetings by leading discussions, managing action items and following up with inventors, and ensuring resolution of agenda topics.
- Aiding portfolio management including assisting IP Counsel with patent preparation and prosecution through outside counsel.
- Reviewing status of outside counsel work by meeting, communicating, and reviewing documentation ensuring the work, methodology, and costs meet the company’s expectations.
- Assisting in patent annuity reviews and patent marking reviews.
- Participating and/or leading brainstorming sessions and other invention facilitation sessions.
- Conducting patent searches and competitor landscape analyses.
- Providing IP training to BSC employees and raising IP awareness across the business through other outreach opportunities.
- Potentially assisting in managing trademark or other intellectual property protection and prosecution.
- Potentially assisting attorneys in evaluation of patents and potential product infringement reviews.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required in related field
- 6+ years of experience in related patent agent or IP liaison role
- Strong patent prosecution experience with an understanding of both US and international patent law and practice
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders including legal, R&D, marketing, outside counsel, and third-party contacts
- Excellent collaboration skills including the ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
- Action-oriented and able to take on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm
Preferred Qualifications:
- Admitted to practice before the USPTO
- At least 2 years of in-house experience
- Degree in engineering or science, or similar
- Medical device experience preferred
- Experience in patent analytics, AI tools, docket management tools, and/or database searching
