Job responsibilities

  • Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
  • Develops secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
  • Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
  • Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture
  • Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies
  • Adds to team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • Strong experience with mainframe systems, including programming in COBOL, IDEAL, IBM legacy and working with legacy technologies
  • Oversee the lift-and-shift and live modernization of existing applications to AWS, or architect the redevelopment of legacy applications into cloud-native solutions, as decided by strategic goals
  • Lead and mentor a team of software engineers and architects in cloud best practices, development methodologies, and technologies
  • Develop detailed migration plans, including timelines, risks, and resource allocations
  • Demonstrated ability in leading digital transformation projects
  • Extensive hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and substantial experience implementing cloud-native services; preferably on AWS
  • Advanced in one or more programming language(s); such as Java and/or C#
  • Ability to tackle design and functionality problems independently with little to no oversight
  • Document high-level and low-level architectural diagrams, decisions, designs, and modifications
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Certifications in AWS cloud architecture or z/OS IBM Cloud.
  • Prior experience in the financial services industry, particularly with secure and compliant systems
  • Strong analytical, negotiation and partnering skills with ability to successfully navigate in a matrix organization
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to think analytically
