This job acts as a project leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers, determining technical tasks, and improving existing structures and processes. It involves making technical decisions, collaborating with management to set standards, and representing the company to external partners.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Actions result in the achievement of customer, operational, program or service objectives

  • Exercises judgement in reconciling diverse and competing priorities (time, quality, complexity risk) to identify optimal solutions to problems
  • Notices patterns and condenses repetition into densely meaningful generalized solutions
  • Collaborates with management to set/improve standards for engineering rigor
  • Trusted to represent PayPal, Inc to the outside world via interactions with partners, customers, or industry organizations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Cyber Fraud Researchteam is looking for an expert Fraud Technologies Researcher. The team is a small multi-disciplinary R&D team that holds a wide array of responsibilities - from designing, developing and maintaining a state of the art system for combating fraud, to conducting technological research on tools and methods used by fraudsters.


What does Success Look Like?

In your role as a researcher, you will:

  • Conduct analytical research on fraudsters' toolkits against PayPal and its affiliates, aimed at developing ways to mitigate their use, working on PayPal's Big Data platforms.
  • Perform technical research on network traffic to identify indicators for fraud.
  • Investigate known malwares, and devise methods to identify their existence on clients.
  • Collaborate closely with InfoSec teams and lead efforts in stopping attacks against PayPal clients.
  • Serve as domain expert in sophisticated fraud within PayPal.

About You

  • 4+ years as an analyst or researcher in the cybercrime, cyber-fraud or cyber warfare area.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or equivalent.
  • Ability to plan, develop and deliver PoC solutions over multiple developing languages and environments
  • In-depth knowledge of network protocols. Namely TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, HTTP protocols.
  • In-depth familiarity with the cybercrime and cyber fraud environment
  • Proficiency in Linux and Windows
  • Quick-thinker, fast learner, wide general knowledge, problem solver
  • Out-of-the box thinker, self-motivated with a can-do attitude
  • Excellent spoken and written English

Advantages:

  • Experience with data science and machine learning algorithms
  • Experience with big data (MapReduce, Pig, Hive, Splunk)
  • SQL knowledge
  • Experienced with network analysis tools (Wireshark)
  • Russian language proficiency – an advantage
