Job Purpose:
Sets direction for and reinforces the importance of Environmental, Health & Safety in the organisation. Manages the overall Environmental, Health & Safety program, including development and implementation of strategies, policies and practices. Works with plant senior management team to integrate Environment, Health & Safety performance into facility operations. Ensures EH&S strategies are are fully aligned with local and global business strategies. Develops opportunities to provide strategic and competitive advantage through cross-functional interaction. Provides leadership to drive continuous improvement in Environment, Health & Safety performance, while assuring comprehensive operational compliance. Delivers consistant EH&S performance that meets or exceeds core metrics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops, maintains, and reviews the Environmental, Health & Safety programme to ensure compliance with current and future legal, regulatory and corporate requirements.
- Manages regular strategic review of EHS in the organisation and provides appropriate objectives and programmes to improve overall EHS performance and to mitigate against future liabilities.
- Participation in management review meetings to present Environment, Health & Safety performance, discuss upcoming Environment, Health & Safety actions to improve functional performance, and proactively identify and promptly address Environment, Safety & Health issues which may affect operations or may provide strategic advantage to the business.
- Establishes and tracks metrics for assessing EH&S effectiveness in the organisation, including the OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), the OSHA Lost Worktime Rate (LWR) and ISO 14001 environmental performance goals.
- Develops and executes a plan to reduce worker injury and lost time rates.
- Leads the creation and maintenance of an appropriate EH&S culture through cross-functional cooperation, communications, promotions and training.
- Establishes the priorities and manages the implementation of environmental management programmes.
- Responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of the Environmental Management System. (ISO 14001).
- Responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of theSafetyManagement System. (ISO45001).
- Responsible for appropriate procedures, approvals, co-ordination and control of hazardous, regulated and solid wastes.
- Manages all EH&S regulatory reporting requirements.
- Responsible for emergency planning and takes leadership role in EH&S emergency situations. Ensures that adequate evacuation and response arrangements are in place for fire, accidents and all other emergency situations.
- Represents the company on EH&S affairs with relevant external parties ensuring adequate response to all regulatory and legal issues.
- Works in partnership with other Boston Scientific EH&S professionals to establish or adopt company demonstrated best practices relevant to our Industry.
- Is the Site Lead for EH&S Essentials deployment and Essentials Strategic Assessment execution.
- Delivers a strong safety culture programme which promotes responsibility, ownership and behaviour among all employees.
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Requires a minimum level 8 qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Experience of working in a manufacturing environment with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience of managing and leading a team of EH&S professionals.
- Experienced in all areas of Health & Safety including maintaining policies, assessing risks, training, audits & inspection, managing incidents and reporting.
- Extensive knowledge of Irish & European EHS Legislation.
- Self motivated, results and solution oriented individual.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strong leadership abilities.
- Ability to work as part of a team and meet targets/goals efficiently.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven experience in implementing and sustaining ISO 45001-certified Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems.
