What to Expect

Tesla is currently seeking a motivated and accomplishedIndustrial Engineer to lead the design and analysis for Factory Design materialflow projects. This role requires strong industrial engineering fundamentalsand the ability to apply first principles thinking to design material handlingsystems. This role must quantify concept-level layout options, which willnecessarily involve working with ambiguous inputs. Ultimately this role worksto develop a complete process for line-to-line part flow for dozens of flowpaths. This position may be based in Reno/Sparks, NV or Austin, TX.

What You’ll Do
  • Display a positive attitude and practice strong work ethicsthat reflects the mission, philosophy and goals of Tesla
  • Develop detailed material flow models for new and existingproducts to project material flow headcount, assess congestion, execute onbuffer quantities, and ensure overall feasibility
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineering teams to developa plan to deliver every part from one production step to the next
  • Fully detail manual solutions while conceptually modelingautomated solutions to collaborate with automation design teams on businesscases
  • Develop innovative, cost-effective solutions with thepackaging team for part presentation, packing density, and sustainability inautomated and manual solutions
  • Create 3D dynamic simulation models to design bulk materialhandling systems in detail while considering all other flows/disruptions thatmay share its path
  • Work with internal manufacturing engineering teams to ensurethat equipment and layout designs align with the overall material flow plan andvision for the factory
  • Own design of layouts for each element of a materialhandling system
  • Iterate and grow layouts that capture touchpoints across afactory in X, Y, and Z
  • Develop keep-out zones for material handling paths andanticipated equipment while a factory launches utilities and support space
What You’ll Bring
  • 2+ years of industrial or manufacturing engineeringexperience with emphasis on layout and/or material flow or equivalent
  • Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Extensive detailed material flow analysis experience to makedata-driven decisions and summarize results for executives
  • Deep understanding of material delivery methods (i.e.powered industrial equipment, automated guided vehicles, conveyor, rail-guidedvehicles) and strategies (i.e. forklift-free)
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to drive projects withdiverse teams in a high volume manufacturing environment
  • Experience quantitatively solving ambiguous factory designproblems at a systems level
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with layouts in AutoCAD or Revit
  • Experience with implementing and improving manual andautomated handling system
  • Experience working with 3D discrete event simulationsoftware (FlexSim preferred) or in simulation consulting or dedicatedsimulation internal organizations
