As a Data Management Lead - Data Retention & Destruction governance specialist in the office of the chief data officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring records are managed in accordance with retention requirements under laws, rules, regulations and applicable JPMC governing policies, standard and procedures . Your responsibilities will include implementing record management governance processes, collaborating with cross-functional teams and ensuring compliance with retention requirements. The role demands a keen understanding of data risk management and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

Your responsibilities are to interact and collaborate with the firms Chief Data Office (CDO) to support different pillars of data management including Data Governance, Use, Quality, Storage, Retention, Destruction and Protection. You will contribute to Office of the Chief Data Officer’s objective of driving governance across ownership, use, quality, retention and destruction , protection and storage.

Job Responsibilities

  • Govern data stores adherence with data retention and destruction requirements as per established policy, standard and procedures i.e. data is classified , retained in accordance with applicable retention period and destroyed at the end of the retention period.
  • Monitor, analyze and report retention and destruction governance metrics, identify risks and issues and drive corrective actions with data store stakeholders
  • Conduct periodic audits to validate correctness of retention class codes assignment and validation of evidence of retention and destruction of data in accordance with applicable retention period.
  • Provide guidance to data and application owners on data retention and destruction practices, ensuring consistency and adherence to firmwide policies, standards and procedures.
  • Design and conduct regular training session to raise awareness of data retention and destruction among data and application owners.
  • Liaise with legal discovery department and data owners to ensure data is not destroyed while under legal hold
  • Collaborate with compliance and legal to actively manage e-communications surveillance, supervisory and legal hold feed population.
  • Represent LOB in firmwide/ regional forums and working groups to ensure LOB specific considerations are covered in firmwide policies, standards and procedures.
  • Monitor completeness of metadata of record inventory and facilitate its enrichment by collaborating with data owners.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and changes in regulations related to data retention and destruction

Required qualifications, capabilities & skills

  • Proficiency in managing data lifecycle processes, including data classification, retention schedules and destruction of data.
  • Experience in Data Retention and Destruction practices for cloud (SAAS) technologies
  • Prior experience in working in Office of the CDO in BFSI industry
  • Ability to conduct risk assessment related to data retention and destruction, identifying risks and mitigating actions.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships, influence stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to articulate risks, issues and actions concisely for CXOs

Preferred qualifications, capabilities & skills

  • Knowledge of data retention and destruction laws and regulations applicable for UK and Germany.
  • Ability to analyze process, identify data retention and destruction risks and design controls .
