We’re looking for a Resident Engineer with a background in Illinois roadway and bridge construction. As a Resident Engineer in our Chicago, IL office, you’ll use your expertise working together with our technical professionals to resolve complex problems and serve our clients in the construction of highway, local road, toll road, transit, and utility projects.  As a member of the team, you’ll act as a liaison between engineers, our clients, contractors, and stakeholders. Your primary role will be to monitor the progress of construction projects and advising steps to ensure the project goals are achieved. You will report on progress, safety, financial projections, quality control and changes in the contract work. You will develop a trusted relationship with the project team, contractor and with the client’s staff.

Responsibilities of this position may include but are not limited to:

• Review and understanding of construction plans, specifications, submittals, and contract documents.

• Review inspector daily reports.

• Prepare regular status reports and maintain current and accurate record drawings.

• Monitor construction activities and contractor progress. Coordinate the efforts of the contractors with applicable stakeholders.

• Manage and document on the status of project schedule and budget.

• Report on construction progress as required by the project. Oversee quality assurance program for each assigned contract.

• Review submittals, requests for information (RFI’s), and material documentation for conformance to contract documents. Liaise with engineering discipline leads to prepare responses.

• Review project schedules and progress updates.

• Review, approve, and certify contractor requests for payment.

• Oversee preparation, review, and resolution of project change orders.

• Report and document field conditions that deviate from the Contract.

• Oversee project closeout.

In this role, you'll also communicate with all members of the project team, and work to mitigate or eliminate project risks. This role will involve extensive interface management with stakeholders and contractors as you provide construction oversight to ensure that the construction project is safely and accurately implemented on site adhering to the requirements of the construction contract. You’ll work with the best Engineers and Project Managers in the business, as well as gain experience working directly with the project Contractors and interacting with the Client. Here's what you'll need

• 20 years of construction engineering/management experience working on highway/roadway, toll road, and bridge projects

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline

• Professional Engineer license (IL)

• Construction engineering/management experience on Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA), Chicago Department of Transportation, and Illinois county projects.

• IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities certification

• Ability to commute to/from project locations in the greater Chicago area

• Proficiency with Microsoft applications, including Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook

• Excellent organizational and written and verbal communication skills

Ideally you’ll also have:

• Proficiency with Bluebeam and eBuilder

• Working knowledge of MicroStation and Primavera or Microsoft Project
