Job Description:

Set up, run, and evaluate chemical processing equipment to safely produce quality products. Operator assists and supports higher level Chemical Operators in routine operations while progressing through the training sequence. The Operator is expected to perform additional responsibilities as training is completed and is certified by the trainer. Performs job functions in a safe manner in compliance with 3M Cordova policies and practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Wear air mask or respirator asrequired.
  • Hazardous material training requiredannually.
  • Maintain records pertaining toproduction.
  • Ensure work area is maintained in a clean, orderly fashion and free of workhazards.
  • Maintain, clean, and operate portable equipment, powered andmanual.
  • Ensure proper instrumentation and process control using Panel Boards or operator interface controlsystem.
  • Must be able to enter and work in a confinedspace.
  • Read all safety standards, acquire the necessary safety items, and know proper emergency procedure, and instruct other personal in the area. Strictly adhere to and enforce all safety practices during complete run.

Required:

  • Must have high school degree or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read and understand process and safety standards.
  • Make calculations to determine charge amounts, adjustments, and yields.
  • Must understand and apply basic and inorganic chemistry, and distillationprocesses.
  • Understand, practice, and enforce safety standards for the area. Read and understand Operations Manual for all equipment in work area.
  • Must perform first line maintenance and repair, including troubleshooting and problem solving on process equipment. Have knowledge of factory service procedures.
  • Maintain satisfactory progress on training competencies. Maintain certification status on all units in building or unit, process safety courses and operating standard.
  • Operate material moving equipment including Forklifts, Pallet Jacks, Hand Trucks and DrumLifts.
  • Use safe and proper procedures to charge material into the unit using proper methods andequipment.
  • Maintain operating standards including variations, check weight sheets and material safety data sheets (MSDS) as needed.
  • Assure proper conditions are maintained such as regulation of steam pressure, pressured water systems, chilled water systems, refrigeration systems, seam vacuum jets, etc.
  • Continuously monitor unit and product in unit by visual observation, and physical testing. Identify unusual vacuum or temperature curves to assure safe operation and quality results.
  • Record information and data as required by standard and/or instructions to give a complete history of eachrun.
  • Verify the unit and auxiliaries are in suitable condition to operate. Confirm availability of weight tanks, assume they are in proper condition, set up automatic batch equipment to deliver prescribed quantities.
  • Ensure proper operation of all kettles and auxiliary equipment, and determine proper capacities, kettle types, pressure ratings, vent, vacuum, N2, Dip tube & vapor space.
  • Maintain proper operation of overhead system, condenser, KO pot, Receiver and weight tanks, Vacuum Jets &scrubbers.
  • Use, maintain, adjust agitators speed control, oil level and pressure and drivesystem.
  • Take samples as required or instructed. Using proper safe methods, submit samples forevaluation.
  • Perform calculations as directed by standard, for solid adjustment, viscosity dilution, product blends, and miscellaneous chemical analysis, etc.
  • Participate in and ensure success of quality programs and materials controlprocedures.
  • Know emergency procedures. Alert supervisor as to abnormalconditions.
  • Assemble proper materials based on run card and standard and verify materials arereleased.

The starting rate of pay for this position is $ 28.09 and
goes up to
$30.27
after 12 months of employment.
