What to Expect

The Project Engineer, New ProductIntroduction is responsible for supporting the development of new processes andcarrying out each trial exactly to the established product specification. Thisrole will be supporting our Powerwall product at our Nevada Gigafactory. This includes managing the program from earlyprototype builds through to the launch of the production line. The primaryrole of the Project Engineer will be to test and validate systems and partsinvolved in product development and manufacturing to ensure products are of thehighest quality. To support this, the Project Engineer will also establishvalidation standards, develop testing protocols, prepare equipment, documenttest results and maintain records. The Project Engineer will identify, report,and adjust equipment or processes that require improvement. The ProjectEngineer will collaborate with safety, design, product excellence, changecontrol, manufacturing, and service departments.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage quality assurance and procedures bytesting and validating systems and parts; Assist in establishing andimplementing new validation standards, and procedures
  • Lead manufacturing line trials for newproducts and processed; Conduct Trial Preparation and Reporting: Ensurepart availability, line readiness, and pre-requisite data obtained andconsolidated. Document observations, analysis, and results, make recommendationsas needed and drive solutions. Record all issues found during trials and helpdrive to closure; Manage Trial Recovery: Ensure manufacturing lines arevalidated and/or restored to prior condition post-trial(s). Evaluate thesuccess of each trial (yield, downtime, cost, safety, etc.).
  • Become Expert Level Trainer on all machines inassigned areas and be responsible for the level of knowledge of Shifttechnicians. Provide hands-on support to maintenance team to troubleshoot andresolve extended downtime situations; Serve as subject matter expert (SME)on trials to ensure proper validation procedures are followed
  • Driving accountability regarding project &program milestones, key initiatives, and project success criteria
  • Coordinating with variety of cross-functionalstakeholders to track execution of projects: production operations, engineeringfunctions, finance & accounting, material & production planning, designteams, etc.
  • Development and deployment of a world classoperations playbook across energy product manufacturing sites, includingpreventative maintenance, business reviews, etc.
  • Lead, guide, and mentor junior team members
What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturingenvironment; Experience commissioning and improving equipment. Have ademonstrated track record of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement,Preventative and Predictive Maintenance activities
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering,or equivalent relevant experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an aptitudefor learning systems quickly. Able to utilize structured problem-solvingtechniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) or Eight Disciplines (8D).Able to resolve high level performance issues into addressable actions
  • Develop robust and clear data collection,visualization, and analysis tools. Enable data driven operational and financial decisions throughpredictive insights into tool and process performance, including integration offactory data systems and use of software such as MySQL, Python, R, JMP,Minitab, Tableau and Ignition
  • Experience breaking down high-level (e.g.,device level) performance issues into addressable action items. Exceptionalcapacity for managing simultaneous activities, competing priorities, andchallenges
  • Experience supporting, maintaining, andmodifying pilot line equipment to support development efforts for multipleprograms
  • Strong ability to work and communicateeffectively with team and peers within a manufacturing and engineeringorganization. This includes excellent communication skills, both written andverbal
