Job Purpose:

  • To work along-side the Structural Heart Therapy Development and wider R&D team, collaborating on product design concepts, development of new lab test methods, and development of unique procedural uses of existing devices & therapies.
  • This person will be responsible for ensuring that all testing/lab activities are carried out in line with customer requirements, to accurately collate tests results, complete necessary documentation and present findings to the team.
  • Manage and execute laboratory functions including research.
  • Purchase required laboratory equipment and materials to serve R&D Laboratory requirements.
  • Regularly maintains the lab to ensure it is in good working environment.
  • Ensures that projects are completed on schedule following established procedures and schedules.
  • Collaborate and communicate with others especially with peers and engineers who request testing and support method development
  • Represent the lab with external stakeholders including physicians and clinical representatives

Key Responsibilities

  • Completes testing as required for Structural Heart Projects, including feasibility, test method development and external publications.
  • Ensures all Datasheets/Documentation are completed and reviewed in a timely manner with an emphasis on Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Takes ownership of the lab area and actively request that customers use the lab as intended, following Good Lab Practices requirements (GLP).
  • Provision of excellent service to all internal and external customers.
  • Conducts themselves in a professional manner with an appreciation of our Behavioural Standards.
  • Good interpersonal skills and organisational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ensure all training is completed as per Laboratory Training Program and myLearning.
  • Ensure training records are current and in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Ensures any issues are reported to the relevant Engineer(s).
  • Assist Therapy Development Team in solving customer related problems.
  • Complete verification of instruments and equipment where required.
  • Maintain calibrated lab equipment and complete introduction of new lab equipment (Class A).
  • Assist in development & writing of test methods.
  • Responsible for maintaining clean and organised workspaces when conducting testing or any other lab activities.
  • Compliant to the requirements of governing lab tissue controls.
  • Completes assigned activities associated as requested by the Therapy Development team
  • Communicates any concerns about work process regarding environmental impact, health or safety issues to their Manager/Supervisor.
  • Perform and assist with additional duties as may be directed by the Supervisor.
  • Maintains the lab area and ensures it is kept clean and organised.
  • In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures. Some weekend work may be required depending on customer needs.

Qualifications and Experience

  • NFQ Level 7 180 credits qualification or higher in a relevant STEM Degree for Tech III role NFQ Level 6 120 credits for Tech II role.
  • 5 years medical industry experience
  • Excellent technical capabilities, communication skills, teamwork abilities and initiative.
  • Proven ability to work well both as part of a team but also able to work on own with minimum supervision.
  • Prior experience required working as a technician in a test lab environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to learn new tasks / processes and can work on own initiative
  • Flexible to take on new tasks based on customer needs and prioritizes work to meet required timelines
