As a product support engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Maintain and modify reusable and powered air respiratory systems using CAD (Computer Aided Design) tools
  • Follow design control and global standards for respiratory products and support change management activities
  • Lead CMP (Change Management Process) projects and design mechanical components for functionality and performance
  • Conduct robustness analysis and finalize product and process for manufacturing
  • Assist with product documentation and CAD drawings
  • Support transition from electro-mechanical prototype to production
  • Plan and execute product engineering and modification projects
  • Understand product quality and customer requirements
  • Review and resolve product performance issues
  • Be a technical team of respiratory system development programs
  • Develop a global network across R&D, regulatory, supply chain, marketing and application engineering teams
  • Keep awareness of system relevant regulations, liability, toxicity, sustainability and environmental impact


To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or field of Engineering (completed and verified prior to start)

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Design respiratory electro-mechanical components using the latest CAD tools, Creo, NX, AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar
  • Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to engineering challenges
  • Use computer simulation tools to test and optimize designs
  • Know the material properties and design guidelines of various mechanical components
  • Follow Design for Manufacturability and Assembly principles
  • Understand and protect intellectual property
  • Troubleshoot complex electro-mechanical hardgoods systems
  • Resolve problems with urgency
  • Collaborate across the company’s global teams
  • Communicate and present conceptual ideas effectively

Work location:

  • Hybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require travel to Maplewood, Minnesota at least 3 days per week)
