Core Data Governance Responsibilities
- Define and enforce data governance policies, standards, and best practices across the organization.
- Collaborate with data owners, stewards, and custodians to ensure data accountability and compliance.
- Monitor data quality metrics and lead initiatives to resolve data integrity issues.
- Support regulatory and compliance efforts (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, SOX) by ensuring proper data handling and documentation.
- Facilitate data access controls and classification to ensure appropriate data usage and security
Data Stewardship Responsibilities
- Act as a liaison between business and technical teams to ensure data definitions and usage are aligned.
- Maintain business glossaries and ensure consistent data definitions across systems.
- Identify and resolve data quality issues in collaboration with data owners and subject matter experts.
- Track data lineage and ensure transparency in data transformations and flows.
- Support data lifecycle management, including retention, archival, and disposal policies.
Data Catalog Maintenance Responsibilities
- Maintain and curate the enterprise data catalog to ensure it reflects current and accurate metadata.
- Onboard new datasets into the catalog, tagging them with appropriate business and technical metadata.
- Promote catalog adoption by training users and promoting self-service data discovery.
- Ensure catalog entries are linked to data quality scores, lineage, and stewardship contacts.
- Periodically audit the catalog for outdated, redundant, or incomplete entries and coordinate updates.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Management, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 3–5 years of experience in data governance, data stewardship, or data management roles.
- Experience working with enterprise data catalogs (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Microsoft Purview).
Technical And Domain Skills
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data lifecycle management, and metadata standards.
- Familiarity with data quality tools and techniques, including profiling, cleansing, and monitoring.
- Experience with data classification, lineage tracking, and access control policies.
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, SOX) and their impact on data handling.
- Proficiency in SQL and working knowledge of data warehousing concepts.
Data Stewardship And Cataloging
- Experience maintaining business glossaries and metadata repositories.
- Ability to curate and manage data catalog entries, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and usability.
- Understanding of data stewardship roles and responsibilities, including issue resolution and stakeholder coordination.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with data owners, stewards, engineers, and business users.
