Your role and responsibilities

You will be working as a backend developer for both internal and external ISVs to port their solutions to(mainframe) in aRed Hat OpenShift hybrid cloud environment. This includes open source software porting and assisting customers in validating and running their applications on our platform. In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with ecosystem teams and Red Hat engineers
  • Port Red Hat software to Linux on IBM Z & LinuxONE
  • Develop and test software patches
  • Expand CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure
  • Performance-tune applications for our s390x architecture

Given Red Hat’s software stack is built on open source technologies using diverse programming languages and spans across various domains,
preference will be given to candidates who are:

  • Familiar with open source development practices and community engagement
  • Proficient in multiple programming languages
  • Experienced across a variety of application areas (e.g., infrastructure, cloud, DevOps, middleware, automation)

What You’ll Do

  • Perform open source porting for Linux on IBM Z platforms
  • Contribute patches and code to open source communities
  • Assist partners in building and validating their solutions on Linux on Z
  • Work with stakeholders and customers to define, clarify, and deliver solutions
  • Build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD environments
  • Deeply engage with Red Hat OpenShift and hybrid cloud ecosystems

Required education
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred education
Master's Degree
Required technical and professional expertise
  • 4+ years of experience in software development, ideally within open source environments
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Go, Java, Python ), scripting languages, and development tools
  • Experience with build environments (e.g., make, Maven ) and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Travis CI, GitLab CI )
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in customer-facing environments
