The Sr Radio Communications Engineer position serves as the radio communications systems expert for the Authority on the implementation, upgrade, maintenance, and optimization of MARTA's 16-channel trunked 800 MHz radio system and Automatic Vehicle Locating (AVL) system. The position also serves as the technical lead for the AVL and 800 MHz radio system and is responsible for managing and providing oversight for the fixed site equipment and mobile fleet equipment associated with the system. The position performs system analysis and provides production support for high level reporting. The position coordinates all activities requiring system stakeholder involvement and manages and coordinates all system upgrades and reconfigurations. This position manages first responder interoperability coordination, acting as radio system administrative lead, and manages and provides oversight of all radio communications initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and coordinates all radio communications systems initiatives, working directly with the GEC, the Office of Program and Contract Management, the Office of Engineering and all involved MARTA stakeholders, vendors and external first responders.
  • Serves as the lead from both a project implementation and coordination standpoint for all initiatives involving MARTA's 16-channel trunked 800 MHz radio system and AVL system.
  • Performs installation and coordination functions for new vehicle installations. Work may include coordination with new vehicle manufactures, etc.
  • Provides service interfacing with the General Foreman and MARTA Bus Maintenance staff.
  • Works closely with Radio System vendors, including Motorola, Atlanta Communications Systems, Special Circuits and other vendors in the acquisition, coordination and management of contracted services.
  • Leads efforts to ensure proper system monitoring and reporting of system performance metrics.
  • Recommends enhancements to existing systems and infrastructure components to guard against obsolescence and capacity issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Here's what you'll need
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Planning, Marketing, or a similar field.
  • Minimum of 4+ years of related work experience in Engineering or an Engineering support function
  • Experience in RF Network Engineering disciplines

Ideally, you'll also have:

  • Proficiency in RF simulation tools
  • Knowledge of RF circuit design
  • Experience with spectrum analyzers
  • Signal propagation analysis
