What to Expect

Manufacturing Engineers will develop world-class equipment andprocesses, working with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product launch lifecycle from design to full production ramp. This role requires a highly driven Engineer to work closely with Design Engineering, Quality, Production,Maintenance and External Vendors to take new vehicle designs from initial concept throughprototype development and into high-volume production.

What You’ll Do
  • Collaborate closely with DesignEngineering to develop products that lend themselves to streamlined and robustmanufacturing methods with industry-best safety, quality, rate and cost
  • Support Tesla’s factory andfacility teams to develop highly-efficient and optimized factory-level layouts
  • Take direct responsibility for exceeding market-leading dimensional quality and lead all activities towards this objective including thedevelopment of GD&T strategies, quality control plans and dimensionalimprovement plans
  • Lead the development ofinnovative and robust tooling design to achieve the process plan and GD&T strategy, working closely withTesla’s partner vendors to buy-off and deliver the final product
  • Drive the continued improvementof early project planning documents such as project timelines,Requests for Quotations, FMEA’s and Safety Risk Assessments
  • Lead the development andintroduction of processes and equipment associated with early prototype buildsand highlighting key process and equipment improvement opportunities throughoutthe prototype builds themselves
  • Work closely with Tesla’s partner vendors to developworld-class production lines with unprecedented simplicity, density, speed, and automation
  • Lead the installation,commissioning, and ramp of high-volume production lines, ensuring closecollaboration with Tesla’s partner vendors to deliver the line in the shortestpossible time and lowest possible cost
  • Initiate and drive strategies to rapidly ramp the quality and rate of newly launched production lines to full capacity with a focus on maintaining the highest ofsafety standards throughout the ramp duration
  • Build on the success of existing line layouts, processes, and tooling to further improve materialflow, waste reduction, safety, and ergonomics by utilizing lean manufacturing best practices and structuredproblem-solving methodologies
What You’ll Bring
  • B.S. in Mechanical,Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering; or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of related experiencedeveloping and launching complex assembly processes
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude with openmindedness and a strong desire to think ‘outsidethe box’
  • A proven track record of takinginitiative, managing competing demands, collaborating closely withothers, and remaining positive in high-pressure environments
  • A demonstrated ability to bedetail-oriented and make data-based decisions, owning assignments and taking full accountability fortheir successful and timely delivery
  • Flexibility andadaptability to changing priorities and assignments, coping with rapidlychanging inputs, constraints, and priorities
  • Strong familiarity withstructured problem-solving methodologies such as DMAIC, 5 Whys, Fishbone, and 8D
  • Extensive hands-on experience with modifying jigs, fixtures, andcoordinating equipment installations.
  • Strong understanding of BOMs, OEE, manufacturability, DFM, process design, process validation, assembly methods,design reviews and cost reduction methodologies
  • Experience with AUTOCAD, CATIA,SOLIDWORKS, and other similar software/tools
