Join our Advanced Water Purification Facility (AWPF) in Santa Cruz, CA as an Instrumentation and Controls Technician. The AWPF is a complex state-of-the-art facility comprising of Ozone, Membranes, Ultraviolet-Advanced Oxidation, and waste treatment processes. It is designed to treat an average of 1,500 acre-feet per year (AFY) or approximately 1.3 million gallons per day (MGD) of Secondary Wastewater Effluent to recharge the groundwater basin and combat seawater intrusion.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Interprets and works from blueprints, drawings, sketches, plans, and technical documents.

• Maintains the record keeping associated with all electrical, instrumentation, and controls repairs and modifications.

• Follows oral and written instructions.

• Establishes and maintains cooperative relationship with those contacted during the course of work.

• Performs the calibration and repair of all process metering devices.

• Recommends control system modifications with documented justification that will result in standard utilization of parts and materials and will reduce operating and repair costs.

• Establishes and enforces uniform electrical repair safety procedures.

• Makes modifications to as-built electrical drawings based on system modifications and update all electrical component equipment history files.

• Creates work orders to perform daily tasks using the CMMS and track work performed and inventory used on a per job basis.

• Configure new computers out of the box to be accepted onto the domain and install all necessary software packages for PLC programming and HMI/SCADA monitoring and control.

• Experienced with Allen Bradley PLC’s, Wonderware Controls Software, and others.

• Ability to travel 25% of the time.

Here's what you'll need

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

• Associate or Bachelor degree in related field is preferred.

• Must have and maintain a valid CA Driver’s License

• CWEA Electrical and Instrumentation Technologist Grade 1 or above is preferred.

Work Experience Needed:

• Three (3) to five (5) years' experience dealing with the maintenance, repair and calibration of electrical control systems in a water or wastewater facility.

Ideally you'll also have:

• Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, and instruments used in the maintenance, repair and calibration of electrical and electronic control systems.

• Demonstrated knowledge in CMMS, SCADA, Windows, Allen Bradley PLC’s, Wonderware, and others.

• Ability to design and implement networking schemes and have a full understanding of IP network architectures.

• Knowledge of the principle and practices of an effective control system preventive maintenance program

• Knowledge of standard safety principles and related state and federal laws and regulations.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Words and Excel.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoor, outdoor, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
