Your key responsibilities
- Assist in derivatives valuation engagements primarily for financial reporting purposes.
- Build and maintain financial and valuation models using tools like MS Excel, under supervision, based on provided client data and business plans.
- Assist in report preparation, financial modeling, and identifying key issues during engagements.
- Apply basic knowledge of option pricing theory, fixed income concepts, and other quantitative valuation techniques.
- Utilize current technology and tools, such as MATLAB, Python, R, or similar statistical software, to enhance the effectiveness and accuracy of services provided.
- Stay informed about current business and economic developments relevant to the client’s industry.
- Work collaboratively with team members, contributing to project delivery while gaining exposure to financial databases like Capital IQ and Bloomberg.
- Show a willingness to learn advanced valuation techniques and grow through mentoring and guidance from senior professionals.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills while presenting findings and solutions to internal team members.
Skills and attributes for success
- Basic understanding of hedge effectiveness analysis.
- Familiarity with corporate bonds, treasury bills, and other fixed-income instruments.
- Foundational knowledge of debt securities, loans, and related financial structures.
- Exposure to interest rate swaps, FX & currency swaps, credit default swaps, and other derivatives.
- Awareness of forward currency contracts, future contracts, FX spot, forward deals, and similar instruments.
- Basic understanding of Expected Credit Loss (ECL) concepts.
- Exposure to valuing financial securities, such as:
- Options, warrants, fixed income securities, and other derivatives.
- General understanding of specialized financial instruments like:
- Employee Stock Options (ESOPs), Total Shareholder Return (TSR), convertible bonds, and similar products.
- Willingness to learn advanced quantitative methods, including:
- Monte Carlo simulations, lattice techniques, finite difference methods, etc.
- Familiarity with contingent consideration concepts.
- Basic understanding of calculating the Incremental Borrowing Rate (IBR).
- Ability to support the creation and analysis of financial models using MS Excel.
- Interest in learning financial and statistical software, including:
- Experienced in MS Office applications like Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Power BI etc.
- Exposure to financial databases like:
- Capital IQ, Bloomberg, or willingness to learn.
- Strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to support project delivery and learn from more experienced team members.
- Interest in Equity Research, Investment Banking, or Corporate Finance.
- Eagerness to analyze business scenarios using basic quantitative models.
To qualify for the role, you must have
- A post graduate degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting (CA) or Business with 1 - 2 years of related work experience
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with valuation techniques and methodologies such as Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), Income Approach, market comparable, Option Pricing Model, Monte Carlo Simulation, Binomial Lattice, etc. in a business valuation firm, corporate finance role, or financial research environment, preferably in investment banking, venture capital, or M&A activities. Experience in financial modeling, including the ability to assist in building models in MS Excel and related software.
- Progress towards or interest in pursuing certifications such as CFA, ASA, CPA, or similar is a plus.
