Description
You will work closely with media encode and processing software development teams to bring media encode and compute into a hardened and operational production hardware service. As such, you will be leading the full-uptime performance of the media encode stack during live events. As a primary technical resource for each event, you will find yourself actively involved with the technical care & operation of 24/7 uptime media processing and encode infrastructure in highly dynamic and time critical production environments. You will be encouraged to solve complex technical challenges in real time, while working closely with production staff to clearly communicate issues and offer solutions on the fly.You will also serve as a domain guide and a savvy, hands-on technician in your field, keeping up on the latest and greatest in compute technology to engineer improvements to current workflow, bring up of R&D and test systems, as well as work with a wide variety of internal and external engineering teams and technology vendors to drive innovation in next generation media production capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 years working in the following areas:
  • Maintaining and operating successful, carrier grade media encoding and transmission pipelines for live sports and entertainment events.
  • Hardware engineering experience with ground-up build proficiency for systems containing high bandwidth NICs, CPU, GPU clusters, along with strong supporting SW development knowledge of kernel, driver, networking and OS configuration and performance tuning.
  • Conducting pre-event quality control and performance benchmarking of all encoding SW/HW prior to 24/7 uptime deployments.
  • Hands on operational experience and technical expertise working with media streaming protocols such as RIST, SRT, Zixi, AAC
  • Live broadcast environments and operational workflow for high profile event productions.
  • Technical commissioning, user operation, and in-situ solving of hardware, software and protocols typical of media production environments.
  • Excellent solving skills while under time and resource constraints with strong prioritization and triage skills.
  • Working in international, highly metropolitan locations as key technical production staff. This role may require 50% travel both domestically & internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in Encoder SW/HW development. Applied knowledge in building or maintaining compute infrastructure: high bandwidth NICs, CPUs, GPUs, Ubuntu, SW drivers
  • Ground up build, performance benchmarking, and reporting experience of compute infrastructure development
  • Expertise in Linux & CLI environments for system configuration and management
  • Expertise in MacOS environments for system configuration and management
  • Expertise in CICD configuration deployment
  • Strong IT skills as applicable to typical media production engineering tasks - Layer 2 and Layer 3 IP networking and standards, IPv4 addressing, multicast routing, PTP, SNMP, and IGMP/PIM
  • Familiarity with SMPTE 2110 IP audio and video workflows
  • Experience in REMI (remote integration) based production environments
  • QC of media signals in a media production environment for noise, compression artifacts, sensor based issues, quantization errors, aliasing, audio/video sync, etc.
Pay & Benefits
  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,100 and $276,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Note: Apple benefit, compensation and employee stock programs are subject to eligibility requirements and other terms of the applicable plan or program.
