20.12.2024

The research team you'll be part of is inside Nokia Bell Labs.

Mathieu Boussard, Pierre Peloso, Vincent Verdot, Richard Douville, Nicolas Le Sauze, "Distributed Personal OS Environments – exploring Cooperative Fog Computing", 2023 International Conference on Smart Applications, Communications and Networking (SmartNets),

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE AND WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

You’ll specifically contribute to the prototyping of the compute continuum orchestration solution (see ref).

The first work axis concerns collecting electrical consumption data all along the device-edge-cloud continuum in order to feed the orchestration algorithm helping energy efficient optimization goals. You will specifically introduce monitoring platforms for Kubernetes (e.g. Kepler, Promotheus) and similar features on-device. You will also participate in the design and implementation of the data collection mechanism.

The second axis of work concerns the emulation of the core network between the different computing area (edges and central clouds). For this part, multiple solutions can be considered (e.g. mininet, managed switches, GNS3….).

The intern will participate in this research study together with 4 permanent researchers. The internship work may lead to the production of publications and patents, it may be followed-up with a CIFRE PhD thesis.

Your skills and experience

You’re attending research-oriented master 2.

  • Knowledge of networking and distributed computing principles
  • Hands on docker, experience with container orchestration solutions such as Kubernetes
  • Software development: python and/or java
  • Research mindset and analysis skills
  • Some experience with network administration and/or use of network emulators (mininet/GNS3) would be helpful
