The Second Line of Defense (2LoD) Testing Utility (STU), aligned to Independent Compliance Risk Management (ICRM) and Independent Risk Management (IRM), is responsible for assessing and testing Key Controls, designed and executed by 2LOD teams. This job posting is specific to ICRM coverage.
The ICRM Controls – Control Assessment Officer will be part of a team of approximately 7 assessment professionals who will be responsible for executing the above responsibilities, with breadth and depth on control assessment planning and execution. Accountable for assessment results and advice regarding control design and remediation. As part of this, the role requires the identification of control assessments for escalation to senior management, inputs to process enhancements, technical strategy, and work plans. The position closely follows the latest trends in control design and assurance and requires strong knowledge of appropriate and effective control design and adapts them for application within their own job and covered businesses.
Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required to guide, influence, and convince others, particularly with respect to providing feedback on the adequacy of controls and any remedial actions required as part of controls assessments. The role will require engagement with senior managers at the SVP and Director level.
Responsibilities:
- Executes control design assessments, monitoring design assessments and testing design assessments for controls operated by their ICRM coverage area, in line with the applicable Policies, Procedures and Standards.
- Handles exceptions communicated by the control effectiveness testers, including reviewing the outcomes with the Control Owners.
- Develops and provides training specific to the controls within their coverage (and related process and risks) to the control effectiveness testers within the STU testing utility.
- Helps drives continuous improvements in accuracy, efficiency, timeliness, and quality of MCA control design assessment and controls testing.
- Takes responsibility for their own book of work and prioritizes potentially competing deliverables.
- Supports training of assessment officers on processes, systems, and execution of control assessment activities, which may include cross-training onshore and offshore staff across the STU.
- Maintains relationships and drives accountability with partners, peers and other stakeholders to drive control assessment and testing's success in support of the business's strategy.
- Supports other relevant work efforts of the department where needed and as directed by their manager.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years relevant experience in control assessment (First, Second or Third Line) and a strong background in one of the ICRM coverage areas listed above.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in controls design and/or assessment.
- Experience in a Compliance function at a Global Bank or Financial institution preferred.
- Excellent understanding of MCA (Managers Control Assessment) or equivalent risk and control self-assessment an at peer firms.
- Advanced skills in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS SharePoint.
- Strong communication, written and presentation skills.
- Strong people and relationship management skills with the ability to influence others and foster a sense of collaboration.
- Ability to work independently and effectively on virtual teams, including across different geographies and time zones preferred.
