Assist in driving privacy and data protection compliance for the appropriate business and functional leaders and their teams. Collaborate with business and engineering teams on incorporating privacy by design into products/services and adopting innovative privacy solutions from inception and beyond
Continuously enhance Tesla’s global privacy program through the performance of gap assessments and executing remediation activities. Timely respond to customer as well as regulatory inquiries and investigations related to data, privacy, cybersecurity and AI
Provide privacy and data protection guidance to Tesla business functions, such as those supporting our vehicle, energy, insurance, and financing groups
Research and track global privacy and security legislation, evolving regulations, and enforcement and translating that into practical advice. Counsel on privacy and security incident preparedness and management
Create and present engaging training and awareness content, and further develop Tesla’s privacy and data protection practices in the US and globally
Experience with executing regulatory requirements and reflecting relevant changes in external privacy notices, internal privacy and data handling policies, playbooks, and other materials supporting Tesla’s global privacy program
What You’ll Bring
Strong substantive knowledge of global privacy laws (including United States and Europe), and relevant privacy, cybersecurity, and AI regulations and frameworks (including CCPA, GDPR, EU AI Act). Excellent analytical, written and verbal skills with the ability to present information/complex legal matters clearly and concisely
Demonstrated ability to independently manage a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues. Consistent good judgment and ability to apply legal knowledge to help create practical business solutions
Flexibility, a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and the ability to constructively balance change in alignment with business needs. Strong execution and project management skills, and ability to corral stakeholders from across the organization on cross-functional initiatives
Juris Doctor and membership in good standing in at least one state bar is required. Minimum of 5 years of relevant in-house experience (or law firm) with evidence of exceptional ability
Certified International Privacy Professional Certification (CIPP) is preferred
Pluses include significant consultancy experience and proficiency in a language in addition to English
