The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Process Engineer you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Work closely with production operators and plant engineering teams to resolve and improve chemical processing equipment downtime issues.
  • Equipment activities including evaluating equipment operability and safety to make recommendations for capital improvement projects and equipment renewal; a large part of the equipment activities include participating on equipment project teams to design, install, checkout and startup of new and modified equipment.
  • Leading response to EHS incidents, quality issues and audit findings through root cause analysis and highly effective corrective actions.
  • Helping to lead a safety-driven culture through management of change (MOC), process hazard analysis (PHA) and participation on site and department safety committees.
  • Create and update standard work, operating procedures and troubleshooting guides.
  • Drive process improvements through continuous improvement projects.
  • Supporting a dynamic 24x7 operation through willingness to be on-call.


To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution in science or engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of combined experience in one and/or more of the following areas: EHS, quality, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, and/or product development in a private, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in process engineering within a manufacturing and/or industrial setting.
  • Experience in chemical manufacturing with an understanding of polymer chemistry, reactions, separations, distillations, mixing, and/or milling.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) covered processes.
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement and/or Lean Six Sigma.
  • Strong Leadership attributes, sound project management skills, and ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Capital equipment project engineering.
