Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement generic IP strategy for Teva products in the Canadian market
  • Determine patent certification, exclusivity and carve-out strategy and tactics for ANDS submissions in Canada
  • Providing portfolio management and R&D with clearance advice for generic products and advise Commercial/Launch Teams on potential product launch dates
  • Supporting value-generating business initiatives with patent dispute risk, avoidance, and resolution advice
  • Manage Canadian patent litigation (innovative and generic), assist in development of claims and defenses
  • Oversee external counsel, including work product, budget, and invoices
  • Participate in and/or lead various legal tasks/projects within the greater International Markets environment when needed
  • Collaborate with other regional and global Legal, Commercial, Portfolio, Regulatory and R&D leaders to ensure alignment and consistency in strategy and operations
  • Foster the “Legal Tone” for our ethical behaviour, integrity, compliance standards and policies
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with regulatory authorities to stay informed about changes and advocate for the company's interests.

Your experience and qualifications
  • Law degree (JD or LLB) from a reputable Canadian and admitted to practice in at least one province (admission to Ontario or Quebec preferred). Degree in life sciences-related field an asset.
  • A minimum 8 years’ experience in intellectual property, in private practice or a combination of private practice and in house counsel.
  • Prior experience in pharmaceutical patent opinion work is essential
  • Experience litigating Canada NOC cases required. Track record of successful achievements and progression
  • Must be a member in good standing of a provincial bar in Ontario and/or Quebec
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent skills in drafting and editing legal documents
  • Self-starter, superior organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work under pressure, balancing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of healthcare, Market Trends, Regulatory, Competitors & Customer Insights
