About the Role:

As an Engineering Manager for the Maps Mobile Platform team, you will oversee the strategic development and execution of both the Maps Display and Sensor Mobile groups.

Your focus will be to guide the team in building robust high-level APIs and cutting-edge Maps and Location capabilities, to deliver outstanding geospatial experiences for Uber and its partners.

• Lead and mentor the Maps Display and Sensor Mobile teams, focusing on innovative solutions and technical excellence
• Drive the strategic direction and architecture of our Maps SDK, ensuring the delivery of reliable and scalable mapping solutions
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align goals and enhance the overall user experience with real-time geospatial data and sensor-based inferences
• Prioritize and manage multiple projects, ensuring clear objectives, timelines, and successful delivery within a dynamic environment
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging the team to innovate, while minimizing technical debt and effectively managing stress and burnout
• Leverage tech leads and senior engineers to make informed technical decisions and maintain engineering excellence across platforms

Minimum Qualifications:

• 3+ years experience as an engineering manager
• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer or equivalent
• Experience going through the full software cycle of requirements, design, coding / testing, rollout / deployment, and best practices in delivering world-class software and services
• Experience evolving and presenting a strong vision/roadmap for your team
• Passion about your team’s mission and the self-starting personality to make things happen
• A track record of building teams with a culture of craftsmanship and engineering excellence
• A track record of delivering results even when requirements are under-specified

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field
• Proven experience as an Engineering Manager, with a track record of leading mobile platform teams
• Strong background in Cartography, Mapping apis and related technologies
• Strong technical proficiency in mobile development, API design, and working with location-based services and on-device sensors
• Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to build and nurture teams, encourage "disagree & commit" decision-making, and strategically consult stakeholders
• Skillful in project management, risk assessment, and prioritization between competing interests

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year.
