Job Summary:

Supervises the day-to-day activities of the Metrology and Calibration group with a primary focus on safety, training and development of current and new measuring methods, deployment of new practices and initiatives, work execution and review. Provides hands-on work and support on metrology equipment including hand tools, gages, programmable measuring systems, video inspection systems, calibration, and others. Work and inform direct QA Manager on daily activities and execution performance of the group.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate resources and daily activities of the metrology group and it’s interaction with operations, quality, and engineering.
  • Investigate advanced metrology methods, including multi-sensor CMMs, non-contact inspection systems, and advanced sensors and gaging methods.
  • Develops and maintains a safe and complaint team.
  • Responsible for the development of talent through a structured training program.
  • Develops, supports, approves SOPs and other technical documentation including validations and engineering studies.
  • Ensures routine calibration and instrumentation activities are performed in accordance with established guidelines and operating procedures.
  • Manage and support end user training on Metrology Data Sheets and Work Order processing as per current metrology practices.
  • Keep metrology equipment in optimum condition through the request of proper maintenance and corrective activities when required.
  • Ensures the proper execution and compliance of Metrology work orders.
  • Provides support to investigations for Metrology related safety, Calibration OOS and quality Events.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision/engineering oversight on a moderate level of engineering support tasks.
  • Conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established HS&E requirements to ensure the protection of direct reports and the environment.
  • Ability to investigate and learn new technologies within metrology.
  • Coordinate, create, and modify inspection routines on programmable systems for current and new components.
  • Train inspectors on how to run programmable systems with limited operator interaction.
  • Setup and conduct capability studies to understand long-term feasibility of products.
  • Take ownership as the point of contact including training staff of metrology issues.
  • Work with engineering on development of fixtures and new measuring methods.
  • Strong supervisory skills.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience
  • Direct/Indirect Reports: +5

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Lead experience which demonstrates proficiency in selection, motivating and retaining an effective team, effectively managing personnel issues and planning and administering cost and budget allocations.
  • Supervise the day to day activities in the Metrology group to maintain the production workflow and sustain engineering activities which include but not limited to:
      • Resources allocation
      • Oversight metrology personnel workload and performance
      • Lead on quality issues related to metrology
      • Metrology related validation activities
      • Manage external contractors related to metrology equipment
      • Troubleshooting and repairs
      • Understand instrument asset management and life cycle
  • Assure that direct reports have been adequately trained for their role.
  • Create strategies to control costs, reduce risks and improve productivity.
  • Experience with IQs, OQs, PQs, and validation protocols as necessary.
  • Review and approve documents such as laboratory investigations, work instructions, SOP’s, etc., as assigned.
  • Collaborate with engineering to determine qualifications required for new instrumentation.
  • Collaborate with vendors/suppliers to ensure instrument needs are communicated and implemented.
  • Provide support and assistance to maintain continuous metrology operations.
  • Maintain group metrics for performance and compliance.
  • Assist and participate in audits when required.
  • Provide budgeting information for new instruments, service agreements, etc.
  • Keep current with new technologies and cGMP regulations.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and other commercial packages.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills in combination with strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated technical writing skills.
  • Implement continuous improvement/lean activities and events for the group.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned and strong attention to detail.
  • Green or Black Belt certified preferred.

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimum Travel.
