Director of Quality OptimizationJob Description

The Director of Quality Optimization will be responsible for leading strategic First Time Quality (FTQ) and Inspection Optimization initiatives, aimed at driving significant cost savings and process improvements through the optimization of inspection, sampling, and destructive testing methodologies.

Your role:

  • Oversee the implementation of the First Time Quality (FTQ) and Inspection Optimization programs across various operations sites globally, with a focus on fostering a culture of quality at the source and reducing reliance on manual inspection throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Responsible for Strategic and Functional team leadership, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and quality excellence.
  • Will work closely with site resources to implement changes, ensure successful adoption of optimized inspection methodologies and with stakeholders to gather input, address challenges, and drive continuous improvement efforts.
  • Will establish, monitor, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of inspection optimization and FTQ program initiatives.
  • Reporting to the Head of Quality- Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) QMS/RC & CoE you will collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, quality assurance, engineering, and supply chain to drive alignment and integration of inspection optimization and FTQ initiatives.
  • This
    Hybrid, San Diego, CA
    based role may require travel Domestic/International travel up to 30%,to support strategic/key initiatives and leadership activities.


You're the right fit if:

  • You’ve acquired a minimum of 10 years' Quality Management (QMS) experience within FDA regulated medical device manufacturing environments, with proven experience leading inspection optimization and process/continuous improvement initiatives.
  • You have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in functional leadership, as well as excellent communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and motivate cross-functional teams.
  • You have detailed knowledge of inspection methodologies, statistical analysis, and quality management principles.
  • You have proven experience implementing First Time Quality (FTQ) or similar defect prevention programs.
  • You’ve demonstrated the ability to drive change, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and achieve measurable results.
  • You have project management experience, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and meet deadlines.
  • You have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a quality related field (Required), Master’s degree desired. Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or similar certifications are a plus.
  • You have demonstrated experience working in a highly matrixed, geographically diverse business environment and the ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment.
