As a Legal Entity Assistant Controller in the UK Legal Entity Control team, you will be responsible for financial oversight of the legal entity and is tasked with ensuring that a strong control environment exists as it relates to all businesses, products and operational areas that impact the Legal Entity financials and regulatory reporting of the firm. You will be able to interact with multiple lines of business and internal stakeholders while learning legal entity controllership end-to-end.
Job responsibilities:
- Reviews and analyzes monthly legal entity results to ensure all drivers of the income statement and balance sheet are understood and evidenced by production of a month end reporting package
- Works with appropriate financial and operational groups to provide value-added financial analysis to management, including Board of Directors where appropriate
- Liaises with colleagues across JP Morgan lines of businesses and legal entities, both internally and internationally, in the computation and control of transfer pricing arrangements
- Produces working papers to a high degree of accuracy to facilitate the statutory accounts process, including liaison with external auditors
- Liaises with the regulatory reporting team on regulatory returns in preparation for senior management review prior to submission to the FCA
- Balances sheet reconciliation - ensure all accounts are fully reconciled, and that all aged or reconciling items are understood and supported within internal policies
- Monitors and understands of accounting standard releases
- Identifies and drives improvements and efficiencies in reporting and accounts processes, particularly with regard to automation
- Maintains strong working relationships with Corporate Finance functions such as tax, compliance, treasury, risk, auditors and other internal partners
- Investigates and analyzes resolution of issues and response to ad-hoc queries
- Assists an ongoing Legal Entity Control Standard compliance monitoring and participates in Firm wide legal entity reporting projects including infrastructure and process improvement efforts and other controller initiatives as needed
Required qualifications, capabilities and skills:
- Qualified accountant, or part-qualified accountant
- Good working knowledge of UK GAAP, US GAAP, IFRS
- Strong PC skills (Microsoft suite) essential, experience with automation tools (e.g. Alteryx, Python)
- Understanding of general ledger and performance of financial reconciliations
