Job Title:Senior Database Engineer
Partnering with peers in product development and other operational teams to enable business and deliver projects when not On-call. Working with vendors to manage support SLA’s. Experience in understanding and awareness in an Incident/Problem management process and procedures in driving integration, improvements, documentations, and support strategies in operational environment. Additional points of impact:
- Be an availability champion to PayPal's mission critical production databases.
- Partnering with peers in product development and other operational teams to enable business and deliver projects.
- Explores the automation opportunities for repeatable tasks and recommend/implement the solutions in collaboration with the appropriate teams.
- Proactively finds the potential database issues and takes Initiative to address them in a timely fashion.
Your Day to Day:
- Provide Database support and engineering for 24/7 environment.
- Partnering with peers in product development and other operational teams to enable business and deliver projects.
- Triage incidents and identify root causes. Proactively finds the potential database issues and takes Initiative to address them in a timely fashion.
- Drive Incident management, identifycorrective/preventiveactions and complete such actions.
- SQL review/tuning and suggest areas of improvements
- Able to gel with a large team of DBAs, Command Center, Sys Admins, Architecture, and ETL team and willing to share knowledge.
- Follow change management and security guidelines and execute critical change requests.
- Deliver various DB changes to PayPal's mission critical production databases.
- Proficient with scripting and automation preferably using Python, Shell scripts and Ansible
- Explores the automation opportunities for repeatable tasks and recommend/implement the solutions in collaboration with the appropriate teams.
What You Need to Bring:
- A successful candidate will bring 5+ years of experience within databaseengineering/administration
- Candidates must be open to an on-call schedule every 6 weeks
- Microsoft and Oracle experience is required (strong real-world DBA experience on managing Oracle Exadata databases & Microsoft SQL Server at scale)
- SQL Server DBA experience is required
- Strong experience in performance monitoring, triaging incidents, identify root cause and propose corrective actions.
- Strong ability to write code in Python, PL/SQL and automate task using Ansible & Terraform.
- Partnering with peers in product development to enable business and deliver projects.
- SQL tuning and suggest areas of improvements.
- Public cloud experience is preferred (GCP, Azure & AWS)
- Experience or exposure to NoSQL, MySQL is a nice to have
- Follow change management and security guidelines and execute critical change requests.
- Willingness to document and enhance process-oriented approach.
