You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.We are looking for a Design engineer with hands experience in new product design and development of electrical power distribution equipment such as Low Voltage Switchgear, Power Distribution Cabinets or LV panel boards. If you can design electrical power distribution products and equipment, have tested products per latest codes and standards and have translated designs to manufacturing, then you will be a good fit. You will be an integral part of our design development process and will focus on establishing designs with and support our contract manufacturers for the manufacturing of products. Also as part of the design development process, you will work with other engineers on the team to provide innovative upgrades and improvements to existing and next generational designs. You will be relied on as a subject matter expert in the product design field. We highly support continued learning opportunities and focus on continued employee development.Amazon has a global presence. Travel will be necessary but shouldn’t be more than 50%. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel may be necessary. Your contribution could consist of leading international projects and could require developing engineering information packages. An understanding of international electrical product design requirements is helpful but not necessary.Key job responsibilities
• Supports the Data Center Design Engineering, Principal Engineering, and Hardware Engineering teams to design and develop cutting edge concepts into new products.
• Collaborate with other disciplines such as Data Center engineering, reliability, QA/QC and compliance teams to create well thought out products.
• Creation of designs which meet or exceed our quality requirements while delivering a return on investment.
• Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries.
• Review and approval of product design and drawings including mechanical parts, assembly, construction and electrical drawings.
• Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during manufacturing phases.
• Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
• Work with contract manufacturers to integrate designs and work with them to develop processes that promote the best quality at the lowest cost.
• Ability to provide support for manufacturing activities for the new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
• Support of Operations including failure mode and root cause analysis, maintenance and troubleshooting support, and operating procedure review.
• Be a leader within the product development team as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering.
• 5+ years of experience with new product design, development, product Certification and support manufacturing of power distribution equipment.
• 5+ New Product design experience with low voltage (LV) distribution products with focus on switchgear, switchboards and panelboards.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge and able to interpret electric code NEC, NFPA, UL891, UL508, UL1066, UL1558, ANSI C37
• Experience with Java Script, Python, REACT, Express.js, Data Base management, APIs, and native AWS.
• Experience in Engineering design, manufacturing, Quality control of the products such as Switchgear, panel boards, Power Distribution Units.
• Knowledge of typical data center designs/architectures, design or operation of data centers or substations, and the latest industry design trends.
• Familiarity of product validation process by testing and proven experience for product certification testing by third party lab will be a plus.
• Experience with protection and control schematics and manufacturing wiring drawings will be plus.
• The ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and present the justification to management in a high-level review.
