Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environment
    • OR Master's Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environment
    • OR Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in industry or in a research and development environment, could include completion of a post doctoral research position
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experiencein numerical simulation toolsandhigh-performance computing.

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, relatedfieldOR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years’ experience in industry or in a research and development environment
  • Background in quantum mechanics, statistical mechanicsand transport theory, and solid-state physics.
  • Proficiencyin numerical simulation toolsandcollaborative code development.
  • Competentcommunication skills.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Quantum Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

  • You will joina talented and motivated teamofscientists and engineers committed to advancing topological qubits. Collaborating with a global network of professionals, your collective efforts will be instrumental in achieving breakthroughs in quantum computing.
  • Your main responsibility will bedeveloping andperforming simulations of devices that aredesigned,fabricatedand measuredatMicrosoft Quantum.
  • Leveragingstate-of-the-artMicrosoft Azurehigh-performance computational resources,you willperformself-consistent electrostatic simulations,as well asquantum and thermal transportsimulations,to predict andoptimizedevice performance.The outcomes of these simulations will guide critical improvements in device design.
  • You will be tasked with validating simulations through comparison with experimental data and established models.You will engage in collaborative efforts with experimental physicists to design experiments andanalyzedata.
  • You will exemplify the core principles and values that define Microsoft’s culture, upholding the standards that propel us towards excellence and innovation.
