Your key responsibilities


The nature of this role means no two projects will be the same. That means you’ll need to think on your feet and challenge existing practices to develop answers to complex issues.


As a Senior Manager, your responsibilities are to:

  • Directly support client engagements and help build our practice as we address to the growing interest in the energy transition and carbon markets. The position will support our growing CCaSS practice on engagements related to climate change and decarbonization, as well as support other EY service line teams seeking to understand emerging climate-related risks and opportunities stemming from regulatory action or stakeholder pressure,
  • Identify/communicate trends, developments, and key performance drivers relevant to clients and potential clients. Demonstrate a deep understanding of client industry and marketplace.
  • Develop people by encouraging individuals to think for themselves and take responsibility for their contributions to the team. Successfully delegate to and manage all levels of staff. Conduct performance reviews, serve as a positive role model and mentor, and contribute to performance feedback/training. Foster teamwork and lead by example.
  • Use technology to continually learn, share knowledge with team members, and enhance service delivery. With guidance from leadership, maintain an educational program to continually develop skills.
  • Build strong internal relationships within our national and global CCaSS practice and across EY’s service lines

  • Lead business development initiatives including service offering development and roll-out, proposal development, responding to RFX’s and participating in oral presentations
  • Staying abreast of current business and industry trends relevant to the client's business and overall local industry.

  • Demonstrate professionalism and poise in working with and presenting to clients or EY executives, and in developing relationships with potential clients
  • Demonstrate strong writing skills and an ability to translate recommendations and other ideas effectively and concisely in reports, presentation materials, client proposals and other written communication
  • Be technically comfortable at the interplay of climate change, energy systems and the economy to focus on the energy transition and its associated risks and opportunities for our clients
  • Have in-depth and up-to-date awareness of the pressure facing corporations to transition to the low-carbon economy, matched with first-hand experience in developing and implementing approaches to respond to this pressure across multiple organizations, addressing both physical and transition risks and opportunities.
  • Have experience developing and evaluating decarbonization strategies and cleantech opportunities
  • Ability to help clients understand their GHG emissions profile, structure ambitions[MSF1] context-rich climate targets
  • Have experience with assessing the physical risks of different climate hazards on operations and supply chains
  • Have strong working knowledge of the mandatory and voluntary carbon market opportunities
  • Ability to bring insight on IT solutions and data analysis tools relevant to client needs
  • Have experience implementing the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures and up-to-date knowledge of the regulated reporting space
  • Ability to present complex climate and energy transition scenarios to diverse stakeholder groups across and organization and at multiple organizational levels
  • Have experience working with financial institutions on assessing climate risk and opportunities would also be considered an asset
  • Willingness for out-of-town travel, either domestically or internationally (may be required approximately 20% of the time)


To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Advanced degree(s) in Business/Economics alongside competence in Energy, Sustainability, Engineering or Environmental Science or vice versa
  • 8+ years of professional experience addressing the areas mentioned above.[PM2]
  • Excellent project management and team leadership skills
  • Professional presence with the ability to quickly establish personal credibility and demonstrate expertise
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
  • Location is flexible between Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver but the ability to work and present in French is essential.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • This role involves interaction with clients operating nationally and globally where fluency in French and English is required. Bilingualism in both French and English is therefore a requirement of this role.
