Outshift is about innovation. We look from 12 months out to five years into the future, flexibly working to solve problems instead of fitting into a defined job description. We celebrate learning, and expect our teams to fail fast, challenging assumptions and finding new ways of solving problems.

Who You'll Work With

The Outshift team is highly visible within Cisco as it's leading the future innovation for the business. As part of the Strategy, Incubations & Applications group led by Cisco’s Chief Strategy Officer, you’ll be working with some of the organization’s most forward thinkers. In this role, you can expect to work with engineering, design, and scientists in defining and executing the product plan:

  • Conduct customer, market, competitive, and industry research. Additionally, have a proven grasp on overall landscape for generative AI machine learning models, tooling, and/or applications, and develop a clear strategy around how to elevate competitive differentiators.
  • Own the creation of Minimal Viable Product (MVP) definition and then defining a product roadmap that elevates the competitive differentiators at every stage. Define customer value prop and return on investment at each stage.
  • Work with marketing and business development teams in identifying and executing effective Go-To-Market (GTM) strategies for your product. Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track progress.
  • Key metrics & measures – Establishing milestones & metrics to evaluate the success and failure of the project. Also, pay close attention to metrics and measures important to customer stakeholders and establish a compelling Return On Investment (ROI) for them.
  • Collaborate with marketing team in identifying key collaterals – product documents, data sheets, value props, sales decks, ROI calculators, demo videos (it is especially important for the product manager to own demo scripts and video during MVP and initial stages of the product life cycle).

What You’ll Do

You will build and lead engineering advocacy as a critical bridge between our Product, Engineering and Marketing groups, and our open-source community.

Primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Create and nurture a community where people can learn about the impact that cloud native security can have on their teams, on our product, and how they can influence it.
  • Identify the best channels and engage with our users (e.g., Github, discussion forums, technical demos, events, social media or direct feedback sessions) to build a positive and strong relationship between the developers community and our product & engineering teams, enabling us to build the best solution.
  • Build and publish engaging content : construct helpful examples and guides, ensure documentation meets the community needs, create engaging and educating blog posts, and share excellent community-created content alongside curated case studies.
  • Participate in discussions with the technical staff, at all levels (from individual contributors to executives), to foster user adoption and viral growth, and feed our product roadmap with community feedback.
  • Develop and execute holistic launch plans for major releases and updates to our product : understand the scope of changes, work with developers to assess impact, construct a timeline for rollout, and develop a process to guide the community through changes.

Who You Are

Minimal Requirements:

  • 5+ years professional experience working as a software engineer, including:
  • Rallying internal partners and project managing on a deadline. In particular, you've partnered with engineering teams to deliver anticipated products.
  • Working on Open-Source products.
  • Solid technical background, with previous experience in cloud native security solutions.
  • Strong presence in the developer community.
  • Exceptional external communicator, adept at interfacing with partners and large audiences.
  • Creative, with an informed curiosity about marketing and business opportunities that the Open-Source Product Office will build for Cisco.
  • Skilled community leader, at your best when advising and engaging with large communities, so they can gain members and momentum over time.
  • Ready to own a program end-to-end and build an organization that will grow as a pillar of the company.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

Preferred Requirements :

  • Has owned and edited technical documentation.
  • Has developed tutorial materials (e.g., self-guided tutorials, videos, knowledge bases) to onboard and educate users.

But “Digital Transformation” is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)
