What you’ll do

This role includes a particular focus on supporting the commodities business, providing VAT advice in respect of global commodity transactions, assisting with technology implementation in the business and the review of the commodities’ businesses VAT return and other VAT reporting requirements. Working closely with colleagues overseas to ensure the indirect tax issues associated with this business are effectively managed on a timely basis.

Support the commodities business in indirect taxes and be the primary business interface with Tax for that business.

  • Review new products in the commodities business.
  • General ad hoc VAT advice and projects on other areas of financial services VAT.
  • Ensure VAT compliance in the commodities business.
  • Assist with initiatives in respect of process efficiencies.

What we’ll need from you

  • Commodities VAT specific experience is essential.
  • A deep understanding and knowledge of VAT and financial services is essential.
  • A background in VAT advisory work, is essential.
  • Good understanding of VAT compliance in the UK
  • Experience of VAT processes and risks.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Competent negotiator and presenter of ideas.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Apply commercial judgment as well as technical proficiency.
  • Accountancy or legally qualified; Additional tax qualification would be advantageous.
  • Experience in general VAT and tax accounting.
  • Experienced VAT specialist particularly with commodities issues.
  • Worked in a multi-jurisdictional environment and gained knowledge of one or more tax systems,
  • Experience of partial exemption special methods and financial services VAT.
