As ayou'll operate garbage trucks on assigned shifts. Garbage trucks are 20 cubic yard rear loader configuration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operate garbage trucks in picking up residential trash, green waste, and debris
- Hauling collected material to disposal location and driving the truck back to the depot
- Operate equipment in compliance with OEM manuals and Jacob's policies/procedures.
- Record and submit tonnage reports from disposal location to supervisor
- Service garbage truck as needed with gas, oil, air and water
- Promptly notify mechanic of any repair needs
- Assists with household refuse collection, including whitegoods and other items
- Adhere to established safety procedures
- Perform other duties as required
- Possess a valid commercial driver’s license with ability to be covered by Jacobs’ insurance carrier
- One year of experience operating medium/heavy equipment (trucks, other...)
Ideally, you’ll also have:
- Two years’ experience in sanitation operations (residential garbage collection & hauling)
- Knowledge of work hazards, safety procedures, and traffic laws relating to heavy equipment operation, particularly related to garbage truck operation
- Knowledge of the functions, operating methods and care required in the operation of heavy equipment used in residential sanitation operations
- Excellent navigational skills and situational awareness
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to safely operate equipment, have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift must be able to operate garbage truck, ascend and descend vehicle steps to enter/exit cabin as needed, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height; climb and work off of a ladder or scaffold and climb into and out of vehicles having high ground clearance; use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts; drive for 8 hours a day, and wear and use appropriate safety equipment.
The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoor, outdoor, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
